Centenary welcomes the applications of students from other countries. International applicants are candidates for admission who are not citizens of the United States and who do not possess a permanent resident visa. The College adopts as its official policy for international student admission the guidelines published by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers in its World Education Series. International student applicants must submit all of the documents required for admission by the following dates for:

The Admissions Office will only review a complete application, which consists of the following items:

  1. A completed application; There are additional items for transfer students.

  2. A response to one application essay question or a graded writing sample from school;

  3. Originals or certified copies of all high school or secondary school records and diplomas (faxes, advisement and student copies are not acceptable);Any document not in English must be translated and evaluated by an international credentials evaluation service such as Joseph Silny or WES. Transfer students must also have an official college or university transcript mailed directly from each college or university attended.

  4. The International Student Recommendation Form and supporting letter from a teacher, college professor or adviser;

  5. A completed Financial Aid and Certification of Finances Application;

  6. A clear, legible copy of the photo page of the passport; and

  7. One passport sized photo.

  8. a. Students who are native speakers of English must submit official SAT I or ACT scores in lieu of English proficiency exam results. Official SAT I and ACT scores are those reported directly to Centenary College of Louisiana by the respective testing agency at the request of the applicant.

    b. Students who are non-native speakers of English are required to submit official Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL or official International English Language Testing System IELTS scores. Official TOEFL and IELTS scores are those reported directly to Centenary College of Louisiana by the respective testing agency at the request of the applicant. The following minimum scores are required for admission:

    TOEFL: Paper-based test (550); Computer-based test (213); Internet-based test (79)

    IELTS: Each content area (6.0)

    An applicant may request that the TOEFL or IELTS requirement be waived if he or she has met one of the following criteria:

    Attended the final two years of high school in the U.S., resulting in the attainment of a U.S. high school diploma; or,

    Successfully completed 30 transferable semester hours at a regionally accredited U.S. institution, including a minimum of 6 semester hours in English, excluding remedial English and English as a Second Language courses; or

    Earned an associate’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.

  9. The completed Report of Medical History and Physical Examination Form should be submitted no later than one month (July 5 for fall 2009 and November 30 for spring 2010) after submission of the admission application. Late submission may jeopardize the ability of an admitted student to enroll in courses. Required: TB skin test within the last year, 2 MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccines, and a tetanus within the last 10 years, as well as the menningococcal vaccine.

Financial Assistance for International Students

International students may qualify for academic merit scholarships from Centenary. The Committee will evaluate all components of a student's application to determine eligibility.
