Hurricane Katrina Update:

Hurricane Katrina impacted many alumni.
We appreciate alumni opening their homes to fellow alumni, offering to host the families of Centenary students from the Gulf Coastal area and also the Dillard University students and staff who were evacuated. All needs that we know of have been met. Your generosity and concern is appreciated. There are several news releases and updates on the Centenary website.

If you are an alum in need of assistance please be in touch. We may be able to help. Some alumni are looking for jobs. If you can help them, please let me know. We will post this information on the website.

We also want to hear your stories. If you evacuated or volunteered and feel like sharing your experience, please send your story to us. If you have photos please send these. We will post them on our website and perhaps use them in an upcoming Centenary Today.

Alumni Help New Students Move-in

Several alumni helped Centenary's newest students move in to the residence halls on Wednesday, August 17. National Alumni Board president Charles Grubb joined Centenary's other president Ken Schwab in all the fun helping tote boxes and 'stuff.'

New this year was a gift from the Centenary College Alumni Association. Each new student received an insulated mug from alumni volunteers helping with the check in process. Some of the comments from our volunteers:

"It was worthwhile just for the impact it had on parents. I talked to a father from Ohio who was moving his daughter in. He kept saying how impressed he was by the help, especially that the President of the College and the President of the National Alumni Board were out there (he met both Dr. Schwab and Charles Grubb). He said that you would never see that at
Ohio State, his alma mater." — Mimi

"Parents as well as the new and old students were very impressed that the alumni were visibly present during move-in (and the cool travel mugs made a nice impression).
I have no reason to doubt that more alumni participation on campus will encourage the current students to become active alumni after raduation!" — Jennifer

Scott Durbin '92 and the Imagination Movers

Scott Durbin '92 and the Imagination Movers, an award-winning music group for kids and parents to enjoy, are coming to Shreveport.

The Movers recently joined forces with LBP (Louisiana Public Broadcasting) to air video interstitials between children's programming statewide, and consequently, are coming to Shreveport to perform at the Strand Theatre. On November 2nd, the Imagination Movers will play two shows (10 and 12) at the Strand.

The Movers have been pretty busy, having received deal memos from Disney, Razor & Tie and Cookie Jar. Their debut DVD has been selected a 'Parenting Pick' by Parenting Magazine and a 'Teacher's Pick' and 'One of the Year's Best Videos' by Scholastic Parent & Child. Add an appearance at this year's Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Dallas Pepsi KidAround and you've got the makings of a sleeper hit.

Even so, the Movers have remained loyal to their grass roots beginnings and with their videos soon to expand into Arkansas and Alabama via PBS stations (Georgia and Mississippi are also on the horizon) one can only guess where the Imagination Movers just might be in six months.
