Centenary Grad Honored by the Mid-Con Conference for Second Time
2005 Graduate Anja Schmidt, who played tennis for Centenary, has been selected as a recipient of the 2004-05 Mid-Continent Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award. Schmidt also received the honor for the 2003-04 academic year, making her just the third student-athlete in conference history to win the league’s top academic award twice in her career. The accolade is the most prestigious individual honor given by the league. The native of Gifhorn, Germany, excelled in the classroom, registering a 3.94 cumulative grade point average as an economics and business administration dual major. Read the complete story.

Your Gift Counts!
Now in the early days of its new fiscal year, Centenary is asking all alumni to help reach this year’s goal of raising the alumni participation rate to 20 percent. Please support Centenary by making a financial gift online. Early contributions are very helpful, as your gift will count in two important ways: Firstly, with your financial support Centenary can continue competing for the brightest students and attracting and retaining the best faculty. This in turn allows the College to maintain the strong brand and reputation that its alumni appreciate and enjoy in their professional and personal lives. Secondly, the larger the percentage of alumni participation the better the chances of acquiring important grant dollars. Centenary receives no government funding. All financial support comes from individuals, corporations, and grant-making organizations. These organizations base funding decisions to a great extent on the level of support given by alumni—those individuals who have directly benefited from the institution. If you consider for a moment the rationale it is easy to understand why the level of alumni support is such a crucial criteria in these funding decisions…if a College’s own alumni are not willing to support their alma mater, then why should an outside organization support it? Grants are very necessary for the ongoing maintenance and improvement of academic programs, equipment, and campus facilities. For example, a major funding priority is the upgrading of Mickle Hall. Millions are needed on top of the College’s general annual fund and the ongoing scholarship campaign. Help us acquire our fair share of institutional grant dollars by showing that Centenary is just as valued by its alumni as other private institutions that enjoy large percentages of alumni support. Show your pride in and support of your alma mater. Gifts of any size are very helpful and much appreciated. Remember that what Centenary is striving for is an increase in the overall percentage of alumni participation. Please consider making your online gift today. It’s fast, easy and secure. You will receive no other solicitations in the mail this year and you will be recognized in the 2005-06 Honor Roll of Donors. Together alumni can and do make a difference in Centenary’s future!
