July brings changes for Alumni Relations Department

The Alumni Relations Department is proud to welcome a new staff member. Saige Wilhite ’05 began July 9th as our new Assistant Director of Alumni Relations. David Henington '82, Director of Alumni Relations since 1993 has moved into a role primarily focused on fundraising as the Senior Director of Donor Relations. Carla E. Alsandor MBA '04, former Director of Alumni Programs is now the Director of Alumni Relations.

Saige is from Shreveport and graduated from Centenary with a Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Writing Communication coupled with a French minor. After college she spent six months as a freelance writer and photographer in the Shreveport community before taking a position with Deep South Surplus commercial insurance company. She is delighted to return to her alma mater as a staff member and is anxious to get acquainted with all members of the Centenary Alumni Community. Welcome Saige!

This month also brings a change in location for the Alumni Relations Department. Later this month, the department will relocate to Centenary’s 2910 Building located at 2910 Centenary Boulevard. Stop by and see the new location in August!

New Leadership for the National Alumni Association

Centenary’s National Alumni Association Board announced its new officers and welcomed new members on July 1, 2007. 2007-2008 officers include Hoyt D. Bain ‘63 – President, Wishy Nolan ’54 – Vice-President/President Elect and Kay Moore ’88 – Secretary. Several alumni will also be joining the ranks as new members serving a three-year term and will be officially welcomed at a reception on July 26, 2007. Friday, July 27th 5:30-7:30pm – The Shreveport-Bossier Alumni Chapter will host a “Final Friday” networking mixer (formally “Last Thursday”) at Bistro 6301 located at 6301 Line Ave in Shreveport. Please Note: Final Fridays will be replacing Last Thursdays from now on and will take place the last Friday of every month.

Development Department Welcomes New Director of Annual Giving

Fred J. Landry, Jr., was recently appointed as the new Director of Annual Giving for Centenary College. He will oversee the Great Teachers & Scholars Annual Fund and all annual gifts to the school. Fred holds a BA from Tulane University and most recently served as Executive Director of Institutional Advancement for his high school alma mater, Archbishop Rummel, a Catholic all-boys secondary school located in Metairie, Louisiana, for the past 3 years. There he managed a comprehensive advancement program including annual giving, strategic planning, alumni relations, special event planning and institutional marketing. He also served as Alumni Director at Rummel for eight years. From 1989-1996, Fred was Director of Development at Archbishop Blenk High School, an all-girls Catholic high school in Gretna, LA, and oversaw the establishment and growth of the school’s development office and staff. He is the father of two boys, Michael, 17, who will be attending LSU this Fall, and Scott, 13, who will be an eighth grader at Archbishop Rummel High School for the coming school year. Welcome Fred!

Marjorie Lyons to Celebrate 50 years in December

Centenary’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse, home to the theatre department, will commemorate 50 years of productions in 2007 with a gala December 1st. For more information, contact the playhouse at 318.869.5242. Find information on future show times and ticket prices here.

Last Book Bazaar Drop-Off Date

Interested in getting rid of any books, CDs and DVDs you do not want and helping Centenary at the same time? Come by the bookstore across from George’s Grill on Kings Highway August 13th and donate to the 20th Annual Book Bazaar to be held September 7-8 in the Gold Dome. This is the last drop-off date, so don’t delay!
