It features an updated, expanded main floor that includes new carpeting, lighting, furnishings, restrooms, food/apparel offerings, and office space. Come by for a visit sometime soon. Alumni are invited to join the Centenary Community for the Centenary Coffee Connection every last Friday of the month from 7:30-9:00AM There will be complimentary donuts, discounted coffee, soft drinks, and a chance to visit with students, faculty and staff. Alumni Spotlight
Sharon Tallach Vogelpohl
The spotlight shines brightly on the very successful Sharon Tallach Vogelpohl ‘96. She is currently listed as one of Arkansas Business Top 40 Under 40 magazine individuals. This list recognizes the young leaders of Arkansas. The inclusion on such a select list of only 40 is a tremendous honor. Sharon and the other honorees were chosen from the original nominees list of three hundred young, promising people from across the state
Sharon was part of the name change of the Mangan Holcomb Rainwater Culpepper to Mangan Holcomb Partners and also unveiled Power Ideas, a trademarked brand that focuses on the agency’s unique offerings and attitude in the marketing communications industry of today.
Sharon, 32, has been with Mangan Holcomb for just over 10 years. She began her tenure with Mangan Holcomb with an internship as an undergraduate. She is now a Senior Vice-President and oversees the Client Service and Public Relations Department. In 2003 Sharon became one of the principle owners of the agency.
Sharon graduated magna cum laude from Centenary in 1996 with an Interdisciplinary Degree, which focused on business and communication. Even though Sharon had an academic and athletic scholarship offer elsewhere, she ultimately decided to come to Centenary where her two older brothers were already attending. According to Sharon, being part of a small campus provided her with unlimited opportunities. She could play sports and be an active part of campus life. Sharon was a part of the Volleyball team, a KA Southern Belle, an Honor Court Judge and a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
Sharon feels that Centenary prepared her for the world beyond college. She stated, “Centenary makes you more well rounded and prepares you for the work force.” She added that because Centenary is a liberal arts college the students take classes outside of their defined majors offering a broader field of knowledge and experiences for each student. Sharon included in her studies a chemistry course wondering why at times she did this and if it would honestly pay off later in life. Well, it did! That chemistry class that she was “forced” to take has helped her to relate and better understand her clients’ cases. Sharon also said, that Centenary makes students write, even if they are not in an English class or an English major. From Sharon’s point of view anyone who comes to Centenary will learn to write, to communicate verbally and creatively, and to share his or her thoughts and ideas through strong text. Sharon stated, “Centenary graduates are better creative problem solvers and are able to think on their own and outside of the mainstream.” Thus, Sharon Vogelpohl explains part of the success she feels she has had after leaving Centenary College of Louisiana.
Sharon and her two brothers, Tom ’93 and Timothy ’94, are in the process of endowing the Tallach Scholarship at Centenary in honor of their parents. Sharon also feels that by having this scholarship she and the rest of her family will continue to be closely connected with Centenary College as well as passing on traditions and helping others to meet their full potential.
Having the new Centenary Alumni Chapter in Little Rock, Arkansas, is truly exciting for Vogelpohl. Even though she is in close contact with the Office of Alumni Relations, Sharon believes having a group close to home helps her stay connected with Centenary as well as being a treat to meet and get to know fellow Centenary supporters and alumni. Sharon has made a commitment to be an active participant in the new alumni chapter in Little Rock.
Sharon has not forgotten about Centenary and how Centenary helped her get to where she is today. Like Sharon in Little Rock, members of the Centenary Community are spread throughout the nation and even overseas, but there is still a connection to Shreveport and their alma mater.
