- Vine with mature bark shredding on older stems, lenticels absent or inconspicuous
- Tendrils forked, a tendril or inflorescence present at only 2 consecutive nodes
- Branches of the season terete, glabrous with cobwebby hairs, pith brown, interrupted at nodes; nodes frequently glaucous
Leaves:
- Cordate, shallowly to deeply 3-5 lobed, simple, crenate to dentate, deciduous
- Mature leaves somewhat glaucous beneath, with some whitish to reddish cobwebby hairs
Fruit:
- Berries 0.6-1.2cm in diameter, purple to black
