Thanksgiving Break!
Yay it’s finally here! I have already taken advantage of the fact that I don’t have to wake up early to study or go to class. Last night I slept for fourteen hours!! Thats about how much I slept total in the last three days of school. Pretty crazy. But I can’t sleep for the whole break because I have three tests when we get back! I can’t decide if I’m happy that I have a whole week to study for them or mad because it’s probably going to take over my break… hmm
Well my mom is in India, and my brother is on an Orchestra trip in Baton Rouge, and my dad is at work all day, and my friends all go to lame schools that don’t let them come home until Wednesday, so I’ve been pretty bored. Yesterday I decided to catch up on the tv shows that I’ve neglected while at school. Twelve hours of watching tv on my computer hasn’t done much for my tired eyes.
ZTA Initiation went well last week, and my little sister and I went to my big sister’s house and had a sleepover there. We made family sweatshirts, that are pretty much amazing. Congratulations to the new Zeta Tau Alpha Executive Council!! I’m pretty excited about being on EC because we’re going to officer training at Baylor and we’re spending the night at the ZTA house at UT Arlington. I may even get to visit with my grand-big sister (my big sister’s big sister) who lives near there!
It’s going to be a lot of fun visiting another Zeta house and spending time with my sisters! We all have the same history, but it will be great to learn about their chapter and maybe learn songs that they know. Maybe we can teach them our songs too! Our national chapter symbols are the five point crown, the strawberry, and the white violet. Our special Beta Iota (the chapter at Centenary) symbols are the ladybug and raggedy-ann. Other schools have different chapter symbols.
Well I guess I should start looking at material for those three tests next week….
Initiated!
After a couple months of learning about our history and customs and preparing to become an active member, I was finally initiated into Kappa Sigma early Saturday morning! We celebrated that night with our Chi Omega dates at Giuseppe’s Restaurant (never going back again, long story) and finally embraced our former mentors as equal, active brothers for the first time. Although it’s exciting to finally be an active member, I’ll always miss pledgeship, which ended up being one of the most enriching and fun-filled experiences of my life. The friends I’ve made in my pledge class and in Kappa Sigma overall will remain my closest friends for life—and that’s what fraternities are all about.Thanksgiving Break!
As many of you know, Thanksgiving break begins next week, and for this, I am VERY thankful! This semester has seemed to fly by so far, but it is far from over. With finals just around the corner, the hardest work is still to come, but it is nice to have a week to catch up. My family is going to have Thanksgiving dinner, as we always do, with my grandmother Arkansas. Mmmmm…I cannot wait for the turkey, dressing, sweets, and all the other kinds of delicious food! Those of us at Centenary have so much to be thankful for. Have a safe and happy holiday!
