A New Page
So, everyone is back, safe and sound in the United States. Here are the last pictures taken on my camera of the last 2 days of our trip...
Here is what happened. We finally got on our plane at 10 and flew for 14 hours across the Pacific Ocean and most of the States. We got into Atlanta around 12:15 am, then went through customs which consisted of them checking our passports and taking our claims tickets, oh and going through a round of x-ray machines again. We proceeded to the re-booking counter to get a new boarding pass for the next day and find out where we were staying. We got earlier flights than we had planned, so we were flying out at around 11am the next morning, or that morning since it was about 1:30 am when we left the airport. They gave us an overnight bag with a t-shirt, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, a brush, detergent, and razor/shave gel in it. Half of us stayed at the Sheraton and the other half at the Hyatt. We had to walk all the way to the first corridor at the Atlanta airport (the trains were no longer running and we were at the 5th one which was a really long way away), so we were pretty worn out when we got to where the shuttles were to pick us up. Once we finally got to our hotels, we crashed.
The next morning, we headed to the airport with our two meal vouchers for 7 dollars each and our carry-on luggage. We all got to eat wonderful American food while we waited for our flight. The funny thing was, there was a poster of the Terra Cotta Warriors right across from our terminal. I thought that was interesting. I was almost late getting on the plane because I was waiting on my bagel to be toasted. I made it and we were finally on board the airplane to Shreveport. YAY! We were all excited to be on the last flight of the trip.
Our flight attendant was very nice and chatted with us about our trip to China. It was weird having only one flight attendant after having a whole bunch on all of our other flights of the trip. She had a funny stage voice, though, when she talked on the little microphone. A short flight later, we were descending over Shreveport airport and heading down the terminal to our awaiting parents and friends. My mom made brownies and had my sweet tea waiting for me. We waiting a long time to get our bags, but we were glad to be on American soil with those people that we love.
After saying goodbye to our family of 2 weeks, we all went our separate ways. I went to my house to have lasagna and show my family all of the neat things I brought home and the video of the trip. My dad really enjoyed getting to see everything that we did. Now I just have to go through and edit all of that for our DVD. That should be fun.
Now that my module adventure is over, it's work, work, work until Summer Springboard is over. For those of you who don't know what Summer Springboard is, it's the time when new first year students come to campus to register for classes and receive important information that they need for the fall. I am the coordinator for Springboard this year and have to get all of my work done before I leave to go on family vacation on Friday. I have gotten a lot of work done so far, and I'm really looking forward to the first session on June 17th! Training for the staff will start next Friday, so I am also really excited about that as well.
Keep checking the blog as I go through the rest of the summer. You will get to see the beach a couple of times, meet some new students, and see what the campus is looking like during the summer. Enjoy!
Ashley
