Sisterhood of the Traveling Pumpkins

Word to the wise: Spinning around bats, grabbing pumpkins covered in Crisco, and running across wet grass could possibly be hazardous.

We discovered that at our ZTA Sisterhood Retreat this past weekend. Though our dear Katherine Bowen sustained a serious ankle break that required surgery, we still had so much fun with each other. There really is nothing like getting the chance to get to know girls that will probably be some of your best friends in the coming years.

It was a new experience for me to enjoy being in such close quarters with a ton of girls for an extended period of time. Usually I prefer to hang out with guys, because on average they are less dramatic and more content to just sit around and not really do anything for a while. But the fact that I was with my sorority sisters really changed my perspective on the weekend. I was much more open to the idea of being around them because I can already tell that they are going to be a vital part of my life and my college experience. I already love these girls to death, and I've been a pledge for about a month.

Getting away from campus for a bit and just relaxing was so beneficial to me. I needed the break. As great as Centenary is, lately my classes have felt like a complete burden. I'm not sure what the official total is, but my hours have definitely racked up past 20. Needless to say, that can become quite overwhelming. So when that happens I just look for a way to re-organize everything and lay out all the stuff I need to get done. That way it's all out for me to see and I can start to breathe a little better. And though that helps a lot, I also try to leave room for the fun things in life, like intramural football!!!

I must say, I absolutely ADORE intramural football. Not only do I play for the ZTA team, but I also wholeheartedly support the CHOR team. It's so much fun to just be active in a game and release some of that stress by focusing completely on something other than school work. Usually I'll play in my ZTA game, take an hour break for work, then go over to support my CHOR boys. It makes for a great night.

Sadly, I will be missing my ZTA game tonight to go to a Camerata rehearsal, but thankfully I'll make it out in time to watch CHOR play Kappa Sig. I suggest that during the rest of the season, everyone should come out to the games and cheer on your favorites. It makes the games ten times better when there are fans on the sidelines.

Now it's time to close up this blog. I've got some midterm studying to do! And don't forget! Pumpkins, Crisco, bats, spinning, and wet grass... bad combo.
