A Whirlwind Beginning

Ever since school has started, I have been going non-stop! There is so much to do that it is hard for me to focus on one thing for long enough to actually enjoy doing it. At Centenary, swimming, volleyball, and soccer have begun to have a lot of home games and of course I can not resist going and hanging out with amazing people!

Race for the Cure was September 15th. Since breast cancer awareness and education is Zeta's national philanthropy, our chapter goes out every year to support this amazing event. This year, I decided to cheer as the runners and walkers finished the race. It is so inspiring to me to see the amazingly strong women and men that have beaten such a horrible illness! It is incredibly close to my heart because my great-grandmother and grandmother both had breast cancer and have been in remission for a number of years. This is one of my favorite events all year!

Not only are the professional athletes playing sports at Centenary, but it is also flag football season! This is one of my favorite times of year because everyone has a blast competing to be the champions. I play for the ZTA "A" team (the competitive team, as compared to the ZTA "B" team, the "just want to have fun" team). This year we have a lot of competition, as always the softball girls are incredibly athletic, can throw for miles, and are really intense! Chi Omega also has a really good "A" team that is always tough to go up against. But after all is said and done it is just a lot of fun to go out and play football.

Centenary's Parents and Family weekend also recently took place and Zeta had a dinner for all of our family and friends. My grandparents live in Bossier City so they had the chance to come to dinner with me and I had a great time with them. They love to meet all of my friends and always have such a great time chatting with other parents. Two of our members, Christine Shipp and Alexa Phillips decorated Savoie's beautifully and it was so much fun!

This past weekend Zeta had a chapter retreat which we called the "Crown Bowl 2007!" We started off the week by having Pledge Class competitions everyday and then on Thursday we had a tie-dye party down at the Zeta house where everyone tie-dyed shirts. Luckily my good friend Naana Frezel (tie-dye expert!) was willing to help us out a bit and showed us some tricks of the tie-dying trade.

Friday after classes we headed to Lindsay Ezell's lake house somewhere in the middle of Texas (I think it was near Broaddus). It was an absolute blast! We played team building games, relay races, and got to know each other. On one of our last games, something went terribly wrong and Katherine Bowen, a sophomore member, broke her ankle! Morgana Broussard and I took her to the nearest hospital, about 30 minutes away, and they took x-rays of her, deciding that she needed to be transferred to Lufkin for surgery the next morning. Katherine was such a trooper! She ended up breaking three bones, dislocating her ankle, and had to get 10 screws and 1 plate put in! Needless to say, she is at home in Mobile, Alabama, right now, resting for a bit before she comes back to school next week.

Despite the broken ankle she was having a blast!

Other than the multiple hospital trips, it was a really good weekend and it was nice to get away from school for a bit and take some time to hang out with some truly amazing people!

Every time I think about this being my senior year, it totally freaks me out! I am still waiting for my life-plan to unravel but I know that that will come soon enough. For now I am absolutely loving the friends I have made, the memories I have created, and the life lessons that I have learned! I know college is about academics, but it is also about the inner growth that takes place within you, and if anything, that has been one of the most amazing things that I have experienced thus far.

For now, I better get back to homework! I hope that everyone is having a good week!
