Scoreboard bandit- Not so much

Yay for being done with week two of school, and yay for new jobs! I got a job working over in the Gold dome in academic support. I LOOOOOVE it. I have my own little desk, phone, and computer. I feel so secretarial, it's a good time. Anyway, this job leads me to explain my title. Since I work over in the Gold Dome, my name got mentioned as being able to help at the volleyball game this weekend. I got a call, they asked me to work the scoreboard, and I agreed. I go over on Friday night thinking it's going to be so easy. Was I wrong!

I was really nervous, because, um hello if i mess up everyone in the Gold dome will see it on the blazing scoreboard on both ends of the Gold dome! Anyway, the first half of game one goes by smoothly, then its time for me to hit the timer for the time out, which apparently timing is a big deal. (who knew? I play tennis, we don't have timers!) Well.. apparently I kind of spaced out for a second because next thing I know the ref is yelling at me to "HIT START HIT START HIT START" I freak out and hit start, (all the while my face is BRIGHT RED!) I shake it off, finish the next three games, no prob.

Then comes the thirty minute break, I get some free Moe's (always a good job perk, free food!) And I went to watch the guys soccer game for a few minutes (we won!), then came back for the next match.

I'm sure it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what I do AGAIN. After game two, i'm trying to readjust everything on the scoreboard, games won, timeouts etc. and a DIFFERENT ref starts yelling at me AGAIN to "HIT START HIT START I'M NOT KIDDING HIT START NOW" So now i'm really freaking out trying to figure out how to clear everything and hit start before the ref blows a gasket. Finally I just hit the start button after a good 30 seconds and everyone is just staring at me! I've never been so embarrassed! One of the coaches comes up and tells me "I was about to hit start for you!" And then laughs at me. Fortunately, that was my last incident on the scoreboard.

Needless to say.. I don't think Centenary will be asking me to do the scoreboard anymore for awhile. But it was a good time while it lasted. It was fun being at the game, because a lot of peole showed up. Plus, I got a good view of the mens swim team who decided to show up for the game chests painted, and about half of them in their speedos.

Tonight when I go to watch the volleyball game, I will be the girl sitting very far away from the scoreboard...
