A Diversified, Thrilling, Athletic Hoopla Week

This past week was pretty slow in the way of school work, but there were a few events this week and weekend that I went to that are worth mentioning.

Monday the Men's soccer team had their last game against A&M International, which they won.

Tuesday of course was Halloween, and since I despise everything Halloween, I did not really have anything special going on. I did help the RA's set up their Haunted House in James lobby, but I did NOT attend later that evening when it was complete. I heard it was pretty good, which in my world equates to nightmares for weeks! After that there was Halloween Hoopla which was first the Men's basketball team scrimmaging each other. Then it was a Slam Dunk contest, free t-shirts, a dance competition, and the most amazing thing I've seen in my life: A dance (crew, team, people? I don’t know what they're called) doing the Thriller dance. I'm not kidding people, it was impressive. It made me want to buy an instructional dance video and learn the dance. Yeah, it was that good.

Anyway, the most interesting thing that occurred during my school week was the diversity forum/discussion that I went to. From what I understand, Centenary hired someone to come in and do an analysis of the diversity, and the way we feel about the diversity, or lack there of on Centenary's campus, and what we can do to fix or improve it.

The woman had different types of groups that she conversed with, (fifteen in all maybe?) and the one that I went to was open to everyone. About 20 people showed up and the topics that we were to discuss were supports Centenary has for diversity, the barriers, and what Centenary would be like with the optimum level of diversity. It was very interesting hearing the different point of views represented by African-American, Latino, White, foreign exchange students, and staff of Centenary. A few times it did get a little heated, but that was quickly stopped because the administrator of the forum said that's not what we were there for. All in all it was a good time. Plus, in Dr. Week's Management class we had been discussing ethics and diversity, so going to this discussion really made me start thinking about the issues we face not only at Centenary but also worldwide.

Also this week I went to the Ladies Volleyball team's last two home games on Thursday and Friday. They played good both days, winning on Thursday to TSU but losing on Friday to Oral Roberts.

Don't Forget the Sunscreen,
