Hey Look! It’s Friday
Yes. Thank god for Friday. It seems a simple first week can sometimes end up feeling like a month, but I’ve had fun. First things first–
I got a promotion! So I’m a workingman again – kinda. I’m now the Assistant Music Director at KSCL, which now you can find by pointing your browser directly to kscl.fm. I’m stoked to be more involved with the station. As Asst. Music Director I’ll be swapping the new music for the DJ booth and paying students who review CDs for the station. And, of course, CDs are pretty freakin’ vital to a radio station. I do some other things too (of course). This week I’ve also been busy designing flyers advertising our Battle of the Bands (happening during Homecoming week) and designing our staff t-shirts.

Yes, so, JonnyBoy sat in Turner (Turner Art Center) for about three hours doing nothing but fiddling with a graphic to make it “compatible” for the t-shirt company we are using. GVC helped me figure out some stuff in Adobe Illustrator, and boy is there some stuff to figure out there. That program is SOOOOOOOOOOO confusing. But you can get some pretty cool results once you get on the right track. So, hopefully, I’ve somewhat gotten on that track–maybe enough to give me a head start for DesignComm.
And Turner, yes, it sounds like a boy’s name; the Turner Art Center is now where I work. It’s my first time with work-study, but I’m so excited that it’s in Turner. Why? Because it’s the art building, they have Macs, and there’s a lot of cool professors over here! I help them when they need things and basically protect the computers with my life.
Sitting behind a computer isn’t all that I’ve been doing. I spent the better part of Thursday morning working MY LAST DAY at Starbucks. w00t! – as us geeks say. And it was utterly dreadful: we were one man short, out of several things, and the place was packed (as usual). Anyway, who knows, I might eventually end back at Starbucks (in Little Rock) during the summer if I’m lucky enough to find a place to stay. I stayed with my sister over the break; maybe I could do that again if I don’t annoy her too much.
So for this semester, I should have the ball rolling with enough things to do that my schedule should have space for free time – during the extreme morning and the occasional weekend. So I can sleep. And sleep. And sleep-in tomorrow – a little that is. I’m dressing up in my brown jacket and prolly a tie to talk about the radio station to prospective students and whoever else wanders into the Fitness Center tomorrow at 11:30a or so for Open House.
If I could sum up my week I’d ask you to remember the Austin Powers Goldmember flick. Now, my week has specifically reminded me of a part in that movie in which both Austin and his dad speak in “English English.” Confused? So was I. A confusing bit of slang comprises that particular scene, which undoubtedly reminds me of myself being confused about new classes and the business office and Illustrator among other things.
Viva la moment!
Ciao,
Jonny
