Ok Laaa

So, word up. I'm now living in a traditional Chinese home and I love it. Banana is wonderful! And her family is the bomb. Seriously the amount of calories I am burning in Dragon Boat practice I am eating back on times ten as there is always a hot meal waiting for me (I have had to use the word "bao" for "full" about 18 millon times.) Today before I walked out of the door, her mom asked/told me in Cantonese to get breakfast, an umbrella, some water, socks and various other items. Haha, every trip out the door is a process.

Ok, la. (In Hong Kong there is a unique blend of English and Cantonese, one example is to put transliterated Chinese particles at the end of English sentences, to make them more informal and interesting, I.e. "I'm going to the computer lab la,""say what ga?," or "bye bye da" i find myself doing this more and more. I think it's funny that you make a sentence longer, in order to make it less formal. lol la)

So, I had to say goodbye to Lingnan Diho (university) hostels. So sad, I will miss Bing. She was my favorite security guard. We would always do crazy dances to overcome the language barrier, and laugh at jokes we didn't understand when I scanned into my hostel.

Miss you Bing!

Also, this weekend I did some serious cultural integration, in the form of...karaoke!

Hong Kongers spend HOURS singing karaoke, until 4 am on a typical weekend. All of this without the slightest bit of alcohol in their system! This weekend I was handed a mic...no buts about it. This musical journey (don't laugh at my use of the term "musical journey" cause I know you are) began in the heart of HK, Central! We took a walk around and then hit up the nearest karaoke hot spot.

So we're kind of a big deal

Then, just when I thought the karaoke madness was over. Oh no my friend, they're are in home systems, and umpteen million songs to choose from. And that is where I spent the rest of the weekend.

Sing your heart out Kong!

Then, after a week of intense DB practice I spent Wednesday at Hong Kong's homegrown theme park with freinds from Hong Kong and Australia.

Where else do you get roller coasters with an ocean view!
