Das Kamele?
So, it’s really been a while since my last post, so here’s a quick review of the last month.
- Theta Chi had their annual Halloween party. It was a blast. Loads of awesome people in cool costumes partying it up at the Theta Chi house.
- Theta Chi also had its initiation. It was a fun night for everyone, and resulted in me having six new fraternity brothers. Woot for new Theta Chi initiates!
- Testing rounds came along, so I spent a lot of time studying. Looking back on things, I think I did alright, but I won't know for sure till later.
- Theta Chi received a talk from Dr. Kim VanHoosier-Carey (who is actually my boss at my ARCS tutoring job) about time management and study skills. She’s really good at these and holds seminars on them a couple of times a semester. I highly encourage any students who can to sit in on one of her talks, you can really learn a lot from her.
And that’s pretty much it. My life revolves around my fraternity and school. That might not sound like much, but it actually is, and I love it. Even though classes have a slight tendency to take over my soul.
On another note, SGA has been keeping me busy lately. I’m working with a group of students to start a new club on campus. They are very excited and eager to be chartered so they can start meeting, and I hope that all works out well for them. Also, we will be doing some community service activities as SGA really soon, so I’m pumped about that. We also get to meet with Dr. Schawb tonight and talk about how the College is doing in different areas. It should be interesting.
Thanksgiving break just went by, and that was a very good time for me. I got to spend some time with an old classmate in New Orleans. Mostly, we slept in and played video games all day. It was a much needed break after all the studying I had been doing. We had Thanksgiving dinner with his brother’s in-laws, which was an interesting experience. They were incredibly nice to me, despite the fact that they barely knew me, and it was nice to feel so welcomed into their home.
The break also served as a time for me to start preparing for finals, because those are coming up unbelievably fast. I think I heard someone say today that we have about two and a half weeks of school left, which is both exciting and frightening. I’m looking forward to being home with my family and girlfriend, but finals are bound to make my life miserable over the next few weeks.
Some cool things that are going on right now:
Centenary is going through the process of selecting a new mascot to represent the College! The list of possible mascots has just been released, and all students and alumni are encouraged to vote for the mascot that they want. It’s pretty much amazing that we get to vote for such a crucial part of a school’s image. The decision that we as a community make will have an impact on the school that will last for a good number of decades. I’m very excited about finding out what the winning mascot will be, but we won’t find out until Homecoming, which is in February. Personally, I kind of like the idea of the having the Centenary Squirrels, seeing how they are all over the campus, but that’s just me. Because I'm in SGA, I also got a pink shirt with a huge white question mark on it. It's supposed to remind people to vote for the mascot, but the only thing it reminds me of is the Riddler, from Batman, only our shirts are pink and his is green.

Both the Gents and Ladies basketball face Northwestern tonight, which promises to be an interesting match up. I’m looking forward to that, even though I probably won’t be able to make it to the games because I have meetings on Tuesday nights…However, the Gents are playing Texas Tech on Saturday and I am hoping I will be able to make it to that, mostly because that game will be televised, which makes it awesome.
The Catholic Student Organization got their new t-shirts the week before Thanksgiving break! This is pretty cool, mostly because I really like the shirts, and it’s about time that we had one. I love CSO, the people in it are a lot of fun and have all turned out to be great friends, and there’s really not much more one can ask from a group of people who you worship with.
The Marjorie Lyons Playhouse is celebrating their 50th anniversary this weekend, and they’re holding what promises to be an amazing event filled with song, dance and tasty treats. I can’t wait to stop by for that.
Speaking of this weekend, Centenary is holding an Open House so there should be a lot of prospective students walking around. Hopefully I’ll get to meet a few of them. It’s always interesting to see who might be coming to Centenary in the future. By the way, if you’re a prospective student and you’re reading this, then you should probably stop me if you see me for a quick conversation. I promise I make a better conversationalist than I do blogger.
One last thing, my roommate just got back from Thanksgiving break today, and he brought a light-up camel with him for our room. That camel is pretty much the coolest thing ever. We’re still trying to name it. If anyone has any suggestions, just shoot me an email.

This is our room's newest beast of burden. It has yet to be named. And yes, that IS Curious George right by his side.
Anyway, I still have schoolwork that needs tending to, so I think I’ll stop my rant now. I promise I won’t take a month to post something new this time!
Take care,
Marco
