Centenary's Centennial!
Things have been pretty crazy this past month… school decided to step things up a notch recently. The number and difficulty of my assignments has grown quite a bit lately, and the workload is titanic. That's alright though. The classes are all very enjoyable, but once you factor in the time you spend procrastinating on Facebook, or hanging out with your friends, you realize it all becomes one great balancing act. But hey, that's life. It's all in the time management.
Anyway, on to the cool stuff at Centenary. We just had our great Homecoming celebration last week. Centenary celebrated its 100 years in Shreveport, which was reflected in the theme for Homecoming. I got to participate or attend a large amount of the related activities that Naomi Will and her Homecoming Committee set up, and I have to say that this has been my most memorable homecoming yet.
Theta Chi signed up as an organization and entered the competition for most/best participation in Homecoming. We all got really pumped about it, and we really did try our hardest to make it to everything and place in the different competitions held during the week. We actually managed to win first place with our banner, thanks to the efforts of Jeremy Fagan, Matt Blanchard and the ever-adorable Mary Ham. Thanks again for the help Mary!

We also had to paint a window in the Caf as well, and that looked nice. We also participated in the canned creations competition that was held later during the week. That was fun to do, and Thomas’s design was pretty cool, I thought. It’s the Shreveport skyline with a 100 on the front.

Later in the week, we participated in the gumbo cook-off, and our gumbo rocked. It didn't place, but it was quite tasty nonetheless, and my Brothers and I enjoyed devouring it after the contest.
Saturday was the float competition and parade, so we decided to do this day right. We grilled for lunch on our front deck, and the smell of Richard Davis' meats perfumed the entirety of Woodlawn. One of our recently graduated Brothers, Brandon Walker, stopped by to enjoy lunch and spend some time with us during the afternoon. Thanks for showing up Dub! We miss you! Our float turned out great, and from what I understand, it placed in the float contest, but I'm not exactly sure what position it was awarded. Not that it really matters; just having the float was awesome enough.

Theta Chi's awesome float of awesomeness +2
Our float was nice enough that the Dean of Student Affairs asked us to lead the parade, which we all took as a great compliment. It was a nice change of pace to have our hard work recognized. We bought candy and streamers and got to toss them at bystanders as we drove along. Sadly, not all the candy or streamers managed to make it all the way to their intended targets.

Our good friend Stephanie covered in streamers that didn't quite make it to the streets...
That very same night, we had some of our alumni from the early 90s visit. Garret Kent, Jeff Payne and Eddie Seabaugh stopped by their old stomping grounds, and we all got a chance to sit around and catch up, sharing stories of good times spent with great friends. Thanks for visiting Brothers! We really enjoyed having you all around.
Anyway, that was Homecoming. It was amazing. If you get a chance to, you should visit Centenary during Homecoming season next year. You’re guaranteed to have a good time!
Yours,
Marco
