2nd Place!

The Centenary Ladies and Gents finished up the 2007 conference swim meet over Mardi Gras break. The guys ended up finishing 2nd (without any divers) and the girls finished 5th (also without divers). We swam in Indianapolis at one of the fastest pools in the nation. Some of the highlights of the meet included the fact that our coach, Butch Jordan, was named the Coach of the Year.

Also, Maggie Vaughn- one of our freshman - was named Newcomer of the Year. She won the mile and the 500 and, in both races, she broke the conference record.

Maggie was so awesome

I myself had an outstanding meet; I had my best times in the 200 and 500 and finished 8th and 7th in those. I finished 5th in the mile and added a little bit from my previous best time.

I was also a part of the 800 freestyle relay in which we finished second and we broke our school record. This was the first year I finished in the top 8.

By the way, when we were there, a foot of snow had fallen and most of us had not seen snow in a really long time. Needless to say there were numerous snowball fights.

Back to the conference meet - we were very excited! Almost everyone swam their best personal times and we had a blast. The meet officials said that we were the most spirited team that he had ever seen.

Other awards at the meet included eight guys on our team being named to second team all conference: myself, Chase Lambert, Sam Hayes, Cole McGee, Bryan Myers, Wlad Montoya, Dustin Myers, and Jamie Stults. On the girl’s side, two girls were named to the second team: Leslie Wyatt and Taryne Cantillo, while Maggie Vaughn made first team all conference. All but one of the Centenary Gents team records were broken, and all of the Centenary Ladies team records were broken.

Congratulations to all who competed and since the guys and girls are not losing anyone to graduation this year, the future looks bright. Now we have a break for a little while from swimming so hopefully my studying time will increase.
