All Sports Banquet/ Weekend

Yesterday was the annual Centenary all-sports Banquet. This is a time in which all the student-athletes at Centenary get together and are recognized not only for their achievements in their sports, but also achievements in the classroom. Each coach went up and spoke about their team and some of them gave out individual awards. Our coach recognized all the people who made all-conference teams and then recognized Maggie Vaughn for her performances as the Newcomer of the year for the conference.

Some of the other awards that were given were the people who had GPA’s of 3.0 or better, the Commissioners’ cup of academic excellence, and those who had a GPA of 4.0. The final award of the evening was a new award that was created by the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. This is an organization that I am the co-president of and am very involved with. The Ladies and Gents cup is given to the team with the highest cummulative GPA, standing in conference, and support of other teams. The winner for the ladies was soccer and for the men was swimming. This award meant a lot to the guys team because we love going to support all the teams here at Centenary and we felt like we had a pretty good year so we were very honored to be given this award.

This weekend was crazy because there was so much going on. First this weekend was Preview Weekend and there were about 90 prospective students that were here so as an ambassador, I was hosting two students and there were some committments required for that.

Saturday night was my gf’s Chi Omega formal and Sunday was the banquet. Also on Sunday I did yard work at our new house and went and hit some golf balls. Sp needless to say, I slept like a rock on Sunday night.

On a more serious note, hopefully all of you by now know about the school shootings today at Virginia Tech. It was the worst school shooting in U.S. history. Please pray for the families that were affected by this horrible tragedy.
