That Smooth-Sailing Ship? Yeah...It Sank

Last blog I was talking about how everything was just smooth-sailing remember? Not so much anymore. My Fall Break started early on Wednesday, but not in a good way. I live off campus, and scheduled my classes so I can workout beforehand without having to get up at 4:30 AM. So I'm headed to the gym, just a normal day and um...I rear-ended the Bossier City Chief of Police. He has a Durango, I have an Accord, so basically my car went under his and my hood looked like an accordion. Long story short I had a bruised sternum, soft tissue damage, and whiplash. I missed my first two classes and had to leave the third early. Talk about mixing things up...

Later that day I left with the Christian Leadership Center for disaster relief work in New Orleans. We split into groups and went to different houses. My group did detail work, painting trim, walls, stairs, etc. for a single mom living in Aurora. We painted our van with glass chalk. Jess and I were pretty proud of our joke (What's green and pecks on wood? Woody Wood Pickle!) Yeah, that's about the worst joke I've ever heard, which somehow made it justifiable to write it on the van and share it with the world.

Anyways, we also helped out another team for a little bit, gutting a house and then doing repair work. When we gutted we had to wear Tyvek suits and mine was so big someone else could literally fit inside. Someone thought it would be funny to puff it out and take a picture, so that explains the following.

At the repair work house we actually did do work, but before we started we were playing with the crowbars, sledgehammers, and such we found in the back of the van.

After we finished working we toured the 9th ward, which was the hardest hit area of New Orleans. We also went down to the French Quarter for Cafe Du Monde. We returned Sunday evening, just in time to do all of our Fall Break homework for Monday. I thought that since we were giving the college a good name by spending break helping hurricane victims we should have been given a few days off, but hey, that's just me.

Car Hunting,

P.S. Car hunting as in, yes, insurance totaled mine... :]
