I Saw the BEATLES LIVE!!!
...well, sort of.
I went to a fabulous concert tonight. They look like the Beatles (some of them), but did they sound like the Beatles? Why, yes they did! It was quite marvelous. Anyway, the Shreveport Symphony put on a fund raiser concert featuring Classical Mystery Tour, which features members from the Broadway sensation BEATLEMANIA (or so the flyer says). They tour around the world singing Beatles hits, and man, they make me wish I was around in the Sixties. As cool as I think it was, it surely must have been better back then (though I don’t think I would’ve remembered the era – at least that’s what I hear). There was some old folks in front of the little group I was with that were dancin’ and whoopin’ and bein’ crazy.
The cheapest tickets were $15, but I didn’t have to pay that. It’s nice to have connections in the Hurley music school. Many of the faculty members play with the Shreveport Symphony, and I got a ticket from one of them. The municipal auditorium, which is where the concert was at, was a pretty nice place, too. It was huge, and the acoustics were nice. The only bad thing was the seats. They were very close together, and not very comfortable. But that didn’t matter…the concert was awesome.

That's the Classical Mystery Tour. Paul and John look like the originals...I don't know about the rest.
Another concert that I think was pretty cool was our very own Hurley Orchestra Concert (which I am a member of). My main instruments are percussion and piano, but for this performance I played the harpsichord. It’s similar to the piano, but the strings are plucked rather than hammered. It kind of sounds like a guitar…sort of. It’s a very, very old instrument, but I like playing jazz and latin stuff on it. Too bad that’s not the music we played for the concert. Sigh…
That's it for now...
