Thanksgiving Break

So Thanksgiving Break was crazy!!!!!! Before I start, let me begin by tell you that my week involved me driving to Dallas, back to Shreveport, to Little Rock, back to Shreveport, back to Dallas, to Waco, and then finally back to Shreveport; a 10 page paper; and a 5 hour Greyhound ride from hell!

Ok, now I know you want to know what was up with my break! Well to start out, the team traveled to Dallas the Friday we got out for the break, to play SMU. On Saturday night we beat SMU 93-67, in one of Centenary's most convincing wins in recent school history. After the game we traveled back to Shrevport where we stayed Sunday for practice; then, on Monday morning we left for Little Rock, Arkansas. On Tuesday night we played UALR, losing 76-68; we were down 15 points with 10 minutes to go in the second half, but Tyrone Hamilton hit a big 3 with 2 minutes left in the game to put us down by 2, 66-68. But, we made a few mistakes in the last two minutes and ended up losing by 8, it was a heart breaker.

The next day, Wednesday, we returned to Shreveport, where I, and two of my teammates, Chase Adams and Willie Woods, began our epic Greyhound adventure back to Dallas. The three of us were riding the Greyhound to get back home to our families in Dallas for Thanksgiving. The bus was supposed to leave at 4:30 but we did not end up leaving the station until 5:30. Then we had to stop in Longview and Tyler. In Tyler, the bus was too full to accommodate anymore passengers, so three people stood the remainder of the ride to Dallas; the whole two hours!!! We finally arrived in Dallas at 10:30, where my family was waiting to pick me up!

I got back to my house and ate dinner with my family, then went over to a friends house to see the old gang from high school. We stayed up until about two in the morning, then I went home to get a good night's rest, in my own bed, ready for the Thanksgiving feast the next day.

On Thanksgiving, a family tradition for our whole extended family gathered at my Uncle's farm in Grandview, Texas, about 45 minutes south of Ft. Worth. So, on Thanksgiving, my family and I got up and headed out to the farm. Once there, I mingled and talked with relatives I had seen in a years, and conversated with as may people as I could; at the same time the Packers and Lions game was being played. After the game, the family gathered around the meal, which was prepared as a team effort by our whole family, we blessed the food, the at until we felt like we were going to explode.

After the meal, came my favorite part of Thanksgiving, the family football game. Every year my uncle mows down a section of his farm and marks out a football field with chalk, and then the and members of our family who want to join in get together, we pick teams then play a game until it gets dark. This year we had fewer numbers because some people, who usually play in the game, were not able to make it. Even though my team ended up losing 5 scores to 7, it was a fun game as always. After that my family got in the car and headed back to our house. When we got home we watched the end of the Cowboys game, then a few friends came over and we played some card games(a reoccuring theme with me and my friends).

The next day I had to meet the basketball team in Baylor by 3pm, but I had many things to do before I left town. I got up early and turned in my passport application at the post office, then picked up my teammate, Justin Glenn. Once I had picked him up, we ate lunch with my family then headed to Waco. The next day, we played Baylor and lost by 23 points; it was a very tough defeat. After the game we returned back to Centenary. On Sunday, I spent the whole day writing a 10 page paper for my Religion and Culture class; so my last day of break was spent doing school work; like I said......it was one crazy week!

So for Thanksgiving I traveled 2000 miles to 4 different cities, to lose 2 basketball games and win 1, and then struggle to write a 10 page paper; but in the midst of all that I was thankful for my one day that I got to spend with my family, because it was truly special. Hope your Thanksgiving was not as hectic as mine, and you found something to be thankful for on that special day. Happy Holidays!
