Watchout for Sewer Drains
Funny title huh? Well last week, I was hungry for a late night (4am, so maybe early morning) burger, and there's no better place in Shreveport to get a double bacon cheeseburger at 4am, than Murrells (A small 24-hour diner down the road from Centenary). So Cameron Penney, a stud from the baseball team (who is currently 3-1 after their opening weekend), went to Murrell's to fill our late night craving. After we finished eating we headed back to campus; as, I was heading back down Kings Hwy, I looked down to turn up my heater, only to hear Cameron say "Dude look out for the...." Before he could finish, I had hit a sewer drain with my front right tire, causing it to flatten immediately and dent my rim. We pulled over into an empty parking lot to change the flat, but I did not have the wrench to loosen the lug nuts. So we had to walk all the way back to campus, in 30 degree weather! The next day Cameron went back with me to help me change the flat. Now I'm riding on a doughnut until after the basketball season, when I will then go home to get a new set of tires! So the moral of the story....watchout for sewer drains!
So, this week was homecoming week at Centenary, and a lot of fun events were going on! My favorite event was a mechanical bull, because I held to record for staying on the bull for 28 seconds for most of the day; but, I was finally beat by a freshman who stayed on for 37 seconds! The events also included a stand-up comedian and multiple basketball games.
The official homecoming game was on Saturday; and, despite a loss in overtime, all the fans and alumni who showed up to the game got their money's worth, because it was a nail-biter from start to finish.
Finally, before I go, let's talk movies. I only have one to talk about: Jumper. I saw Jumper Friday night, and all I can say is I wasted an hour and a half of my life, and I wish I could get my money back. Jumper was one of the worst plot lines I've ever seen in a movie; characters lacked motivation for their actions, and no reasoning was offered to explain anything happening in the film. The special effects were good, but it was hard to notice them through the poor story line and terrible acting. So all I can advise is: do not see this movie. And the Oscars are on tonight, so hopefully I'll have something to talk about there next time. Until then, stay safe and God bless.
