Journal #2 - Christian Language (Christian Formation)
Written Journals due November 13 @ Colloquium
Verbal Journals due November 10-November 21
Language has two functions: rhetorical (the implied meaning) and grammatical (the literal meaning). Think about the implied and literal meaning of the following sentence: "I can feel your pain."
- What does this statement mean?
- When would you say this to someone?
- What does this statement say about the nature of God?
Write down "Christian sayings" (or use the following examples) and choose two or three to reflect on using the questions above.
Examples:
- "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good."
- "It is okay, because God has a plan."
- "God has blessed me with..."
- "In the name of Jesus,..."
- "It was such a God thing."
- "It was God's will."
- "Please pray for me."
