Temenos

Temenos groups are designed to inspire students to new depths of spiritual formation through theological reflection. They meet one hour each week during the semester with a leader from the Shreveport-Bossier area. Temenos groups are at their best when they exist at the intersection of personal faith, cultural awareness, and social responsibility. Each groups consists of no more than 7 students plus the facilitator.

Fall 2007 Temenos Groups

Faith with Feet with Rachel Scott - This group will explore ways we can put our faith into action in the community and world, especially to address issues and needs, such as poverty, homelessness and hunger. We will be using a study called "Thinking Theologically about the Haves and the Have Nots", and we will visit 2 - 3 centers in the community that are positively impacting those in need. (Mondays @ 2pm)

Church Involvement in Community Life with Toya Tucker and Brian Wilson - This group seeks to enable students to develop a deeper understanding of the church and its involvement in the community. This course also seeks to convey the interrelatedness of the sacred and the secular. Special emphasis will be given to an analysis of a local Christian social service organization and its relationship to the wider society. (Mondays @ 5:30pm)

Companions in Christ with Laura Canfield - This temenos group will look at the Christian life as a lifelong journey of transformation in Christ, traveled in faithful companionship with one another. A basic exploration of spiritual formation as a journey toward holiness and wholeness, individually and in community, through the grace of God. Discover your spiritual identity, learn about God's presence along your life journey and join in companionship together in Christ. (Tuesdays @ 3pm)

Book Study with Annie Kendig - Annie will have several book suggestions from which to choose, but bring your own ideas as well. The group will decide which book they would like to journey through over the course of the semester! (Tuesdays @ 5:30 pm)

Everyday Spirituality with Mary Preziosi - It is within the everyday ordinary experiences of our lives that we find the presence of God in those to whom we minister. In His day, Jesus traveled the highways and byways, and was called upon to heal the sick, some of whom resided on the margins of society. By His sacred example and the development and nurturing of our own shared special ministerial gifts are we then able to “penetrate things and find God there.” We will endeavor to develop our own individual spirituality and then to share its fruits in an actual practice in a hospital setting; thus ensuring the continuation of His corporeal works of mercy. (Tuesdays @ 7pm)

Communitas with John Henson - Experiencing spiritual formation as a group through ancient spiritual practices combined with current expressions in art and caring for each other, our neighbors and the environment. (Wednesdays @ 3:30 pm)

Nooma with Mark Sorensen - We can get anything we want, from anywhere in the world, whenever we want it. That's how it is and that's how we want it to be. Still, our lives aren't any different than other generations before us. Our time is.
We want spiritual direction, but it has to be real for us and available when we need it. We want a new format for getting Christian perspectives.
NOOMA is the new format. (Thursdays @ 10 am)
