Dream Week 2014 Events

Centenary College will celebrate the legacy and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during a week-long tribute from January 20th - January 25th, 2014. Dream Week 2014 will offer events that encourage participants to reflect on the past while acting upon the promise of the future.

  • 8am, Kilpatrick Auditorium

TUESDAY • JANUARY 21

Dr. Lee Morgan Convocation

  • 11:10am, Whited Room – Hear stories of integration in the city and on - Centenary’s campus
  • 12pm, Cafeteria – Lunch with the speaker

Film Screening: “42”

  • 7:30pm, Robinson Film Center – The life story of Jackie Robinson and his history-making signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers

WEDNESDAY • JANUARY 22

“The Unknown Heroes of the Civil Rights Movement”

  • 12pm, Whited Room – Join Centenary faculty Dr. Dana Kress and Dr. Peter Huff for this conversation about unsung heroes

THURSDAY • JANUARY 23

Ms. Sherricka Fields ’05 Convocation

  • 11:10am, Whited Room – Listen to an alumna discuss her time at Centenary and her current work in the Mayor’s office
  • 12pm, Cafeteria – Lunch with the speaker

Film Screening: “Race the Power of Illusion”

  • 7pm, LSUS University Ctr. Theatre – A documentary chronicling significant events in civil rights and the view of race

FRIDAY • JANUARY 24

Theatre Performance: “Four Little Girls”

  • 7pm, Marjorie Lyons Playhouse – Performance by Mahogany -Ensemble Theatre (free for students, faculty, and staff - $5 for members of the community)

SATURDAY • JANUARY 25

3rd Annual MLK Oratory Contest

  • 1pm, Marjorie Lyons Playhouse – Honors the rich Civil Rights heritage in Northwest Louisiana and showcases talented youth in the area
