Drunk Driving Simulation — April 1, 2008
On April 1, 2008, from 11am until 4pm in the Whited Room of Bynum Commons, Centenary students, faculty, and staff are invited to take a "drunken" drive in a real car. Of course, the real car will be driven in place, situated within a road condition simulator, and each student's lack of coordination will come not from alcohol, but from virtual reality goggles.
The DUI Simulation will utilize a state of the art AWARE III driving simulator from the organization Professionals Encouraging Educational Reform Statewide (P.E.E.R.S). The system will capture participants' performances on videos which will be on display in the Whited Room as the event proceeds, so individuals who don't want to "drive" will still be able to see how their friends would fare in drunk driving situations.

By giving students a fun — but frighteningly realistic — experience of the grave dangers posed by drunk driving, the Department of Public Safety hopes to persuade students not only to avoid DUI themselves, but to maintain an awareness of the potential dangers that their friends may represent in situations involving alcohol.
