What Do I Do on the First Day of School? This is a question asked by almost every teacher education student. To learn first hand practical tips and useful techniques to prepare for and implement a successful first day, TEA members observed and worked in classrooms on the first day of school in Caddo Parish Schools on August 18, 2008 and in Bossier Parish Schools on August 25, 2008. This is what members had to say about this experience:
- "Going to the first day of school at Bellaire Elementary was a blast! I was so excited to go and help my teacher with anything she needed. The 1st day of school got me very excited for the years to come in my teaching career! I can't wait to do it again next year!" Whitney
- "Working on the first day of school opened my eyes to the exciting time of the new students. I could not remember what I felt when I was in elementary school and it was exciting to go back to school. Watching new friendships blossom up on the playground and the ways the teachers prepare differently for their students was so amazing." Michael Anne
- "Once I arrived I helped the teacher by looking online for what buses a couple of students would be riding. I went with the class as we took a tour of the whole school. I helped with putting away school supplies. It was really cool to see how a teacher set up community supplies. I also liked seeing how the room was set up, and just the things they did on the first day of school. It was a lot different than I remembered, and a good experience." Nikki
