The Department of English at Centenary offers a curriculum emphasizing the craft of writing, the study of literature (American, British, and other traditions) as well as related areas of cultural studies and film. Course topics include seminars in literary period, studies in genre, advanced composition, women writers, medieval literature, grammar, film studies, the post-colonial literature, sexual diversity, environmental literature, creative writing, literary criticism, cultural studies.

The capstone senior seminar provides our majors a special opportunity to work closely with a professor on some scholarly project while making connections between coursework and future plans. These students staff the Centenary Writing Lab, lead discussions in first-year classes, present their research at department colloquia, and produce writing that prepares them for graduate school and professional life.
