Military Service

Effective Date: 06/01/95

Purpose:

To ensure that regular employees who have been inducted into the Armed Forces of the United States under the Military Selective Service Act are re-employed with the College after fulfilling their military obligation and to provide leave for short periods of annual military training duty.

Policy:

Leave without pay shall be granted to regular employees of the College who receive orders to report for extended active duty in the U. S. Armed Forces. Within 90 calendar days of discharge from the armed forces, and if the employee gives notice of intent to return to the employ of the College, he/she will be placed in a position equal in status, benefits, and pay to the position held prior to military service plus any other rights and privileges that would have been extended to them as active employees during the period of leave without pay.

Any regular employee who is a member of a Reserve component of the U. S. Armed Forces and is required to attend an annual period of training must submit a written request for military leave to his/her supervisor accompanied by a copy of the official military orders. The employee will then be placed on leave without pay for the duration of the training. Upon completion of the training, the employee shall report to work no later than the beginning of the next regularly scheduled work period following release from training and expeditious travel to the College.
