Overtime Compensation

Purpose:

To compensate non-exempt staff and student employees, who due to the needs of the College, are required to work in excess of their normal work week.

Policy:

Overtime compensation is earned by non-exempt staff and student employees who work for a period in excess of forty (40) hours in any work week. Overtime compensation is paid at the rate of one and one-half times the earned rate of pay for all hours worked in excess of forty (40) in the work week.

Employees who are paid on a monthly basis and who are eligible for overtime pay must be paid for all overtime earned or be granted compensatory time off (one and one-half times the overtime worked). Compensatory time must be taken during the pay period in which it is earned. There are twelve (12) pay periods in each calendar year and each month is considered a pay period.

Annual leave, sick leave, bereavement leave, and jury duty do not count towards hours worked. Paid holidays and non-duty days do count as hours worked and therefore toward overtime compensation.
