SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Residence Life and Area Coordinator is responsible for all administrative functions of the department as well as the day-to-day operations of the assigned side of campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Assistant Director

Coordinate room assignments and room consolidation.

Maintain accurate records for the department and key control system.

Work with SCT Banner administrative computing system and run reports in Microsoft Access.

Serve as departmental liaison with the Facilities Services department.

Participate in the supervision of student workers; selects and trains residence hall staff members.

Manage programming budgets for residence halls.

Chair residence hall committees.

Coordinate summer housing.

Create publications and web documents to enhance marketing and student life.

Assist in the general policy development and direction of the Residence Life and Housing Department.

Other related projects, duties and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – Area Coordinator

Directly oversee the day-to-day operations of 1 residence hall and indirectly over 1 residence hall.

Supervise 6 Resident Assistants and 1 undergraduate Hall Director.

Facilitate regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Advise Residence Hall Association and a hall council.

Participate in a rotating, administrative on-call system.

Assist with Resident Assistant training and selection.

Complete an evaluation of all directly supervised staff members each semester.

Coordinate all administrative functions for assigned side of campus.

Address facilities concerns on assigned side of campus.

Coordinate opening and closing of assigned side of campus.

Adjudicate judicial cases.

Other related projects, duties, and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Resident Assistants and Hall Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

• Master’s degree in higher education administration, counseling, or a related field preferred and or 0-2 yeas experience in student life.
• Experience in Residence Life, Resident Assistant and/or Hall Government experience preferred
• Must have an understanding of and commitment to student development
• Must be people-oriented individual, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse group of people
• Well-organized and self motivated
• Must be able to fulfill job requirements in a high-energy, high-traffic area.
• Computer skills should include basic word processing, spreadsheets, email, and database applications. Experience with Access and Excel preferred.
