Two of my fondest memories of Centenary are the hours I put in working at the Conglomerate newspaper and KSCL radio. Although I did not assist Jay Reynolds and crew in setting up the station, I was at that time working at a now-defunct commercial station in Shreveport, and was one of the first announcers to go on the air at KSCL.

The running joke at the time was, upon seeing Jay, "Hey, Jay, how's the radio station coming along?," a phrase he must have heard dozens of times a day. And for a very good reason. He and a few dedicated and determined people MADE a student-run radio station through sheer personal effort. Jay earned the respect of students, faculty, and staff alike by making a very real and lasting contribution to the Centenary community.

This contribution by Jay Reynolds and all of those who helped make it happen is a legacy, meant to be handed down to the students of Centenary. Regardless of the legal ownership of the station, it is in a very real sense the property of the students and should remain such.

I was also associated with another student run radio station at the University of Central Florida a few years later. This station was callously taken over by the school when it suited their purpose. I suppose I should expect this kind of action from a big, impersonal state university.

Leave KSCL as it is for the benefit of the present and future students of the college, and out of respect for the intentions of those who created and have maintained it over the years.

Thank you.
