I attended Centenary for only two academic years (Fall 1976-Spring 1978), but have nothing but good memories of the two "media outlets" there, The Conglomerate and KSCL. Both served the Centenary community not only as sources of information and entertainment, but also as an outlet for students to actually work in a "real world" communications environment. (although I do remember the phrase " 'Naryland" being used often in those years.) From personal experience, I worked on the staffs of each. While the tone of KSCL was often irreverent (hey, we missed the '60's, so we had to so SOMETHING), overall the radio station provided students with a unique opportunity to gain a little "hands on" experience in broadcasting. But beyond that, KSCL stood for something that the STUDENTS of CCLA built, produced, and ran on a daily basis. For the staff, it was (and for me personally remains) a source of pride and a valuable part of my college experience. I knew of people who could not participate in class because they were so petrified of public speaking, get behind the microphone on KSCL and open up and communicate as they never had before. People laughed at some of the stuff on KSCL. People were occasionally offended by some of the stuff on KSCL. But THEY LISTENED TO KSCL!!!
Sincerely,
Michael J. Graf
