"My Remembrances of KSCL - Si Sikes - Class of 93"

It seems that I too began my career at KSCL (Fall '89) the same way many others did. My roomate Nick Ireland was a DJ at the time, a fact that surprised me ( I thought only communication majors we're allowed up there.) So I went up and signed up. Jonathan Dagenhart was the Station Manager at the time. My memory slips as to what time slots I held, but there were many (I have low GPA's to prove it). I distinctly remember late night shifts with all the lights out, except the lone green light bulb over turntable #1.

Other memories:

- Jonathan calling me during every show to say my show's rhythm was off....."What do you mean 3rd Bass and Duran Duran don't go together?!?"

-Allen Skees and Wayne Westerfield having the "Great Gumby Giveaway" during their Friday, 10-12 Mid show.

-Kurt Norden opening up the studio at 4 a.m. during Finals week and doing a show to ease exam stress

-Hearing the Michael Stipe's promo for KSCL for the first time...I thought that was the coolest thing

-Vinyl....especially Midnight Oil's clear blue vinyl release of "Blue Sky Mining" and the cream white release of Toad the Wet Sprocket...

-"88 Lines About 44 Women"

-Chris Case, Steve Weddle and Bill (rabid Cure fans), Tina Moore, Chris Anderson, Shelly Williamson, Robert Schneider, Scott Durbin, Derek Steele, Chris Chappa and his freestyle scratching, Mike Seymour...Jesse Means and Karl Davis...many others...

-hearing Stone Roses' "I Wanna Be Adored" and the Mighty Lemon Drops' "At Midnight" for the first time...

-studio graffiti

-those damned Eddie Albert and John Denver "Save a Tree" promos...

-the slogan "KSCL..91.3 FM...Underground Radio."

So many great memories; a definite highlight of my Centenary experience.
