Constitution

We the students of Centenary College of Louisiana, in order to promote thoughtful discussion between students that may lead to a more meaningful and complete understanding of the world around us, do hereby establish and endorse this constitution for the Philosophy Discussion Group of Centenary College of Louisiana.

Article I. Establishment of the Philosophy Discussion Group

The name of this organization shall be the Philosophy Discussion Group, also known as PDG.

Article II. Membership

A. Composition

The Philosophy Discussion Group will be composed of two groups: an executive council and general members. The executive council will consist of a President, a Vice President, and a Treasurer. General membership to the Philosophy Discussion Group shall be open to all students and faculty members of Centenary College of Louisiana who wish to participate.

B. Qualifications

All members of the Philosophy Discussion Group executive council must be currently enrolled as undergraduate students of Centenary College of Louisiana.

C. General Responsibilities of the Executive Council

The Executive Council of the Philosophy Discussion Group will be responsible for coordinating monthly meetings and introducing topics to be discussed at those meetings.

D. Executive Council Duties and Responsibilities

  1. President
    The duties of the President include but are not limited to:
    1. The President serves as an official representative of the Philosophy Discussion Group to the college.
    2. The President is responsible for generating publicity to promote student and faculty attendance of Philosophy Discussion Group meetings.
  2. Vice President
    The duties of the Vice President include but are not limited to:
    1. The Vice President serves as an official representative of the Philosophy Discussion group if the President is unable to.
    2. The Vice President is responsible for assisting the President to generate publicity to promote student and faculty attendance of Philosophy Discussion Group meetings.
  3. Treasurer
    The duties of the Treasurer include but are not limited to:
    1. The Treasurer serves as administrator of the Philosophy Discussion Group funds that are provided by Centenary College.
    2. The Treasurer is responsible for creating an annual budget for the Philosophy Discussion Group.
    3. The Treasurer is responsible for the prompt payment of Philosophy Discussion Group bills.

Article III. Elections

A. Election Period

Executive council elections will be held in the spring semester of each academic year.

B. Vacated Offices

In the event of a vacated executive council office, the vacant office will be filled through a special election process.

C. Elected Candidates

In executive council elections, the elected candidate will be the candidate who receives a majority of the votes cast. Eligible voters in this election will consist of all current executive council members and all current general members.

Article IV. General Regulations

A. Removal from Office

Any executive council member can be removed from office by a 2/3 vote of current members of the executive council for consistent failure to execute their duties as outlined by this constitution.

B. Ratification and Amendment Process

  1. An amendment to the current constitution may be brought forth to the Executive Council of the Philosophy Discussion Group by any current member of the organization.
  2. A proposed amendment receiving a favorable vote by 2/3 of the present members of the Philosophy Discussion Group and approval of the faculty advisor will result in its adoption.
  3. Bylaws may be added by a majority vote of the members of the Philosophy Discussion Group.
