Room Selection

General Room Selection Information

date: Thursday, March 21, in the SUB Lower Level (by the mailboxes)
time: see your form
Current residential students are assigned Room Selection Numbers unless they are on the graduation list. Numbers are assigned based on a combination of class year, academic achievement, application date, and disciplinary record. If you have time conflicts with your assigned time, you should assign a proxy to select on your behalf. When your number is called, you (or your proxy) can select a room for the upcoming academic year. You will also be able to “pull in” a roommate to live with you (roommates select their room based on their best number/time). If you want to sign up with suitemates, you can do so together only when all rooms of the suite are able to sign up. Students who neither sign up for a room nor gain approval to move off campus will be charged for a room for the upcoming year.

Going to Live in a Living Learning Community (LLC)?

If you’re an LLC student who will live in a designated LLC area, bring this form (or send a proxy) to Room Selection at 6:45p. All rooms in LLC areas not needed for LLC members will be open to all students. To know which rooms will be open, we need to have the LLC folks select their rooms. Although they are selecting earlier, they can only pick from the very limited minimum area required to meet their needs. This will best allow for all students to have as many options as possible.

What About Rotary? (fyi, each Rotary suite will be renovated this summer including getting full a kitchen!)

For Rotary, you are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to select as an ENTIRE SUITE. There are one-room and two-room suites in Rotary. Students who were found in violation of more than one incident (not including Honor Court) might not be eligible to live in Rotary.

Select Your Own Roommate! (and Even Suitemates)

You are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to select your roommate. Preference is given to paired roommates over those wishing to be assigned a roommate later. If your group is selecting a less than full suite (1-3 rooms in Cline, 1 room on Northside), there will be a maximum of (2 in Cline, 1 on Northside) partially filled suite(s) per gender per floor. If you want to be assigned a roommate later, you will select at the end of the process, but you can’t sign up for an empty room unless no other spaces (of your gender) are available in that building. This may result in you being assigned to a room or a roommate you do not want. Sign up with the roommate you actually want to live with, as changing roommates, even with someone the same suite, may result in being moved to a different suite/floor/building. Anyone who changes rooms without permission will be charged $50 and will be required to move back to their assigned room. If you end up in a double room without a roommate, you will be assigned a roommate or consolidated with someone later. You are encouraged to explore roommate options now.

Don’t Have a Roommate?

Talk to friends and others you know to try to find a roommate. Ask around about friends of friends who are looking for a roommate. Come to Room Selection at 6:45p to meet anyone else still looking for a roommate.

Want a Single Room?

Single rooms are available in all buildings. Students assigned to single rooms might have roommates temporarily assigned to their rooms in the fall. We hope to have all temporary students moved out during the first two weeks of the semester, but it is possible that you will have a roommate for up to one semester if we get more students on campus than we anticipate. Students who have temporary roommates placed with them after classes begin will be charged at the double room rate each day until their room becomes a single. If you do not get a single room during the selection process, we anticipate additional single rooms becoming available during the year as occupancy allows. The cost for a single room is 50% more than the same room’s cost as a double.

Important Information and Reminders

-> YOU (OR YOUR PROXY) MUST BRING THE FORM TO THE ROOM SELECTION PROCESS.

-> If you have a conflict with your scheduled selection time, complete the proxy box on the form and send the form with your proxy.

-> If you (or your proxy) are not present when your number is called, you may have far fewer choices later.

-> If the person you sign up with as roommates doesn’t return to campus housing next year, you may be assigned someone as a roommate and are not guaranteed to keep your room.

-> If you change rooms or roommates after the process, you may select from available rooms, but are not guaranteed to keep your room.

-> Roommates must both be present or have a signed proxy form to sign up as roommates.
