Senator Will moves to amend lines 3 and 25 to read $970, seconded by Senator Russell
Senator Will- The Presidentís office took care of the group meal and took off $300 for groceries.

Treasurer Ehricht- After thinking about that this amendment makes sense. When we send other groups we usually donít pay for their food.
VPEA Cole- They arenít attending a conference, they are going to help people in need. I think we should give them what they ask for.
Called to question by Senator Russell, seconded by Senator Cook

Senator Cook- Last semester we talked about helping the hurricane victims and this is a great way for us to help out in some way.
Senator Will- I would like to make an amendment to line 23 to read ďwork, any unused money will be returned to the SGAĒ
Senator Russell- I donít think we should put this in, and as it stands now we are giving less than what they ask for, any money that get elsewhere they will need
Senator Hafer- Itís logical to add it. If they donít use it they need to give it back.
VPEA Cole- I think it is understood, this is charity work and if they have any money left over I think it should go to help the people down there.
Senator Will-I think giving them the money that we are is great, but they should give us the money they donít use back

IV New Business
Senator moves to adopt Resolution 0506_23 Resolution to allocate $1, 223 to Alpha Sigma Chi (Chemistry Club) in order to attend the National American Chemical Society Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, Seconded by Senator Cook
Senator Will reads the resolution
Yields time to Brett Martin

Brett Martin-The chemistry club is more like a community service organization. We do programs such as the Hollywood project and Sci-port project. We give demonstrations about careers in chemistry. The housing that is required is that we have to stay at a hotel that has a shuttle to the conference; we are booked at the cheapest one with this requirement. While we are there, Kelly will be able to see presentations about what other chemistry clubs are doing and we will present what we are doing. Going there allows us to improve our environment that we make here at Centenary in our Chem. Club.
Treasurer Ehricht- Have you gone to the Provost?
Martin- This is not an academic trip, they will not fund it. His specific reasoning was that none of our participants are presenting research there.
Senator Williams-I think that driving there will cost more than $63.
Senator Ward- Donít we normally pay 35 cents a gallon? Or what do we pay a gallon?
Advisor Delaney- We changed it to ten cents a gallon. Which would change their travel amount to $126.
Senator Will- Lines 4 and 27 should read $1,223.
Senator Lusted- What kind of programs could you bring back.
Martin-Chemistry week, and I would like to see one on women in chemistry. When we go to this conference we can see how other clubs encourage women in chemistry.
Senator Lusted- Are there informational sessions where they present ideas
Martin- Yes, we get to see what other clubs are doing.
Senator Kohrs- What do yaíll do during the year?
Martin- National Chemistry Week, each Friday we go to an elementary school and we do hands on science projects, we have a sci-port activity about twice a year, we have other things like waffle brunches.
Advisor Chirhart- Is the chemistry dept. using any of their budget?
Martin- Dr. Ticich was planning on paying any transportation costs that werenít covered. As far as coming out of the chem. Dept. budget Iím not sure if they have allocated any money for that.
Advisor Chirhart- Who attended this meeting last year?
Martin- Boyce and Waterhouse, I didnít go last year.
Senator Ward- Do you have an agenda of what goes on at the conference?
Martin-Gives a summary of what they will do

V. Extra Business
VPIA Hills- The structure in our bylaws of the media committee is vastly different from what their bylaws say, I simply put what their bylaws say into ours
Senator Russell- What is the faculty advisor to the major in communcations
VPIA Hills-Greg Vanhoosier-Carey (itís the chair of the dept. and itís GVC currently)
Senator McDonald- There was talk about them being separate? Is that what this does?
VPIA Hills- No
Treasurer Ehricht- I would like to amend the bylaws to include under subset A ďthe aforementioned SGA representative is the VPIA and an appointed senatorĒ, seconded by Senator Russell
VPIA Hills- I donít think that is necessary, we donít have to stipulate that, plus I donít know if that is exactly feasible, we canít add to their committee structure
Advisor Delaney- That has been the problem in the past, our idea and their idea are currently not the same, this chance the bylaws committee is proposing is trying to make it the same
VPEA Cole- I donít think it changes their end of it, I think it gives our body checks and balances, I think by asking them to include this one more person in the committee is not asking too much. I just think that it would help communication.
President Lavan- I donít think that we should do this, b/c it undermines what the VPIA thinks. Iím setting up a meeting with all the media heads on Friday afternoon to see what they think. I would like to clear up this miscommunication. We shouldnít add anything permanent like that to our bylaws before we have a meeting with all the committee heads.
Senator McDonald- If the liaisons were doing their job then SGA would have their representation.
Treasurer Ehricht- I would like to resend my amendment

Bylaw revisions approved ( IV section A)

Senator Ward- I think that we should have someone in there to select the media heads.
VPIA Hills- The way that is read, I would make the applications for all the medias, and Iím not suited for that.
Senator Ward- I think we should have a say so in whom they pick for the media heads.
Secretary Lang- We really donít have any kind of qualifications to pick who heads up the medias. I donít think any of us really know how to run a newspaper and therefore are not the best people to have any kind of say in who runs the newspaper or any of the other medias.
VPIA Hills- I have a copy of the media head job descriptions and this is just to show you that they are totally capable of doing without our help at all.
Senator Russell- I donít think that we should say that we are over them.

Bylaw revisions approved (IV section B)

President Lavan- I understand that this topic is convoluted. I donít want to move anymore until we have a sit down with all the media heads.

Face Publicity- Pictures. New senators make sure you take them.

We passed a resolution about Centenary Fridays last semester, remember to wear Centenary stuff on Fridays!!!

Look at committees.
Organized the list of committees and assigned new people where other people had left spaces open.
