II Officer Reports
a. Secretary Lang- Please send me excuses for the things you know you are going to miss if you already know you are going to miss them.
b. Treasurer Ehricht- $8, 227.81 left for the semester.
c. V.P. EA Cole- Homecoming went well, thank you all for coming to the events. I will email you something for media report from film society later.
d. V.P. IA Hills- We will have revisions next week.
e. President Lavan- I’m sorry I was late. I had four meetings before this one. There are a couple of things we need to talk about before we get into meeting. What was said last week was not meant for everyone, but some of you needed to hear it, some of you do your job and do it well. Something else has been brought to my attention, some other senators feel that if we run out of money we will stop having meetings, we will meet until the end of the semester. Make sure you are communicating with your class, use your power to cut/add/vote. Do your homework. Make sure you know what you are passing.
III Old Business
Senator Boudreaux moves to take off the table Resolution 0506_18 Resolution to allocate $446.50 to Juggling Club to fund new equipment seconded by Senator Monette
Senator Kohrs moves to amend line 3 to read $302, line 27 to say five sets of three and then for line 42 to read Therefore Let it be resolved that the SGA allocate $302 to the Juggling Club to fund new equipment (the amendment also implying that the equipment be stored in the SUB) Seconded by Senator Rougely
Senator Kohrs-This would give everyone something to have at meeting and enough with which to get started.
Senator Boudreaux-Nicole said that she is very open to housing the equipment in the SUB.
Senator Monette-It’s a good idea to keep it in the SUB. Considering the size of the club, I think the cut is good.
Senator Russell- I feel like we should give them what they are asking for so they can get what they need so they don’t have to come back and ask for more.
Senator Williams- I think it’s a good amendment. They need this stuff so they can start fundraising.
Senator Lusted-I think if we cut it, they won’t have enough to get started and do demonstrations, so they won’t be able to do their own fundraising.
Senator Russell calls to question seconded by Senator Ward

Senator Stuart moves to take Resolution 0506_19 Resolution to allocate $ 2,250 to FCA to attend the Annual Louisiana College Athlete Retreat at Camp Bethany February 10-12 off the table, seconded by treasurer Ehricht
Senator King- I move to amend lines 3 and 27 to read $750, seconded by Senator Cook
Senator King- The rest of our budget needs to be taken into account. They won’t bring back anything to run their organization. If we do cut it down, we are still paying $25 a person. We only gave Outreach $500 for their whole year. The fundraising issue is that they haven’t done any yet. This was their first stop.
Senator Harrell- First of all I know that they have known about this since last year, and they have chosen to come to us only now, they should have come sooner. I think we need to be consistent with the money we give out. Most of the time students pay things out of their pocket.
Senator Kohrs-I think they should pay something out of their pocket, but I think the benefit of this retreat is being overlooked. For those who do go they benefit tremendously.
At this point Chris Lavan recognizes how cool JT Kohrs is and Shannon Yells Zach Braff is hot.
Secretary Lang- I think the cut is good, because this organization seems to have more available fundraising resources from which to pull than do our other organizations.
Senator Hafer- I think that they will bring something back. Don’t forget that we paid $1000 for 10 people, too
Senator Monette- This is a lot of money to pay for a trip to camp Bethany. Students should have to pay some. I have had to pay in the past, that made me appreciate it more.
Senator Scanlan- I do think the number is somewhat high. They are taught about how to bring things back to their organization. Andy didn’t say that they students weren’t willing to fundraise. He just doesn’t want them to pay out of their pocket.
Senator Argue- We are coming up with this number 30 for people to go. If more people don’t sign up, the $25 a person goes up.
Senator Rougely- We have given more money than that to go to weekend trips. I can see us going half. I think that $750 is too low.
Senator King- It has nothing to do with which organization it is. I didn’t cut it b/c it’s FCA. From the movie and what they said is that the trip is just for fun.
Senator Ward- I feel that this is low. If we give them $25 the whole cost is $115 we would be giving them one fourth.
Senator Argue- They pointed out that of the $115 was still an estimate, and that the fundraising money hasn’t come yet, and that it was his opinion for them not to be paying out of pocket.
Waterhouse-The registration fee is $75. The fundraising is done by Andy Stroope. We have nothing to do with the fundraising.
Treasurer Ehricht- Just to reiterate, FCA has a person who has a job description to fundraise for our FCA group. None of our other groups has this.
Senator Lusted-I just wanted to counteract that this retreat is just for fun, it’s a retreat for personal growth. I just don’t think that this is all in vain.
Senator Nguyen calls to question, Seconded by VPEA Cole

Senator Cook calls the main motion to question, Senator Williams objects
Senator Williams moves to amend lines 3& 27 to read $1200, Seconded by Senator Lusted
Senator Williams-Us paying forty dollars a person is reasonable, they are paying $35 out of pocket, last year we gave $1800.
Senator Cook-If they are putting up $40 we can put up $40. $1200 is more than half of their entire cost. We shouldn’t have to pay that much for their weekend. I don’t think that it’s right that we expect these groups to get by on this little bit of money.
Senator Liddell- This retreat is about meetings and they get leadership skills, they learn how to spread the word about what they are about.
Senator Russell- A lot of people have brought up the Frisbee Club, its further away and it’s over a longer amount of time. By these people going to this tournament uped their competitiveness. Yes FCA going to this retreat is different.
Senator Nguyen- This is a reasonable amount b/c it’s less than what we gave them last year%, I think people would be willing to go and pay $35. Maybe some of us don’t understand but this is about spirituality and this retreat could potentially change someone’s life.
Senator Monette- I don’t think we are putting a cost on the experience. We are trying to be responsible with our money.
Senator Nguyen- I don’t think we should consider saving money now as opposed to earlier, because it’s not fair to these organizations that come later in the semester. We have $8000 left but we only have two months left, and $1200 out of $8000 isn’t too much.
Senator King- Let me clarify about the “fun” factor. I understood from what we heard last week that it had nothing to do about informational sessions.

Treasurer Ehricth calls, Senator Williams objects
Senator Williams-I move to amend lines three and 27 to read $1125, seconded by Senator Lusted
Senator Williams-This is exactly half of what they are asking for.
Senator Boudreaux calls to question objected by Senator Liddell
Senator Liddell- This addition is a good amount. We should pass this one.
Senator King- I don’t think this amendment was necessary. It’s only $75 less.
Senator Williams- Earlier we were complaining about paying more than half.
Senator Monette- I don’t think we are responsible for more students than is in the resolution.
Senator Boudreaux- I move to limit debate, seconded Harrell to one pro and one con for this amendment
Senator Boudreaux- Nevermind, I withdraw my motion

Senator Stuart moves to pull Resolution 0506_21 Resolution to allocate $190 to Diya Surie to attend the Southeastern Undergraduate Sociology Symposium 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia at Emory University off the table, seconded by Senator Ward
-Before we move into debate we need to make a change, as per the academic conference part of our bylaws says that we will pay up to the amount of registration and half of travel, that comes to $170 (it should have always read $170)
The Resolution should read:
- Resolution 0506_21 Resolution to allocate $170 to Diya Surie to attend the Southeastern Undergraduate Sociology Symposium 2006 in Atlanta, Georgia at Emory University
Senator Harrell-Can we suspend the rules to amend it back to $190?
Darrius Hills- Technically yes, but we should have never seen the figure $190
Senator Argue- As we heard, she has applied to grad schools and will further her education, this would be very beneficial to her and to the name of Centenary.

IV New Business
Senator Monette moves to adopt Resolution 0506_22 Resolution to allocate to allocate $1550 for willing students, alumni, faculty, and staff to do hurricane relief work in southern Louisiana, Seconded by Secretary Lang
*Harrell reads the resolution
Yields time to Ashley Junot and Jennifer Bouso%3
Bouso- We are trying to arrange a mission trip to southern Louisiana. Please make sure you have the proposal, and the letter a Centenary alum wrote a letter about the trip. We have prepared a brief DVD presentation for you.
Senator Cook- How did you pay for the trip previously?
Junot- That was from the chaplain’s funds and those funds do not exist anymore.
VPIA Hills- Have you thought about partnering with any other organizations on campus?
Bouso- They cost is for food and transportation the cost wouldn’t be reduced by partnering with other organizations.
Advisor Chirhart- Have you gone to Lowe’s or Home Depot to see if they would donate anything?
Bouso- That’s a good idea, we could try that and remember any cost we don’t use will be returned to the SGA.
Senator King- Have you spoken with the public relations office, b/c this could really help the school.
Bouso- We could look into that.
Senator Williams- Is this limited to the people you have written down?
Junot- If we get more feedback, it would increase travel cost.
Bouso- It would increase the travel amount by 35 to take another van
Senator Ward- There were 17 spots available, have ya’ll filled those?
Junot- We haven’t filled them all, we are sending out a global tomorrow.
Senator Harrell- Have the houses been chosen?
Bouso- We are staying at a church in Madisonville and we have a house to work on and if we finish early there are other houses to work on.
Junot- It’s going to be an 8-5 job and it’s extremely structured.
Senator Boudreaux- What if someone gets hurt?
Bouso- People have to take shots and there is a waiver form
Senator Williams- People who don’t live in Shreveport will drive back up here?
Bouso- There will be people who live in Slidell who will probably meet us there.
Senator Monette- Can you clarify the grocery costs?
Junot- We asked people to bring stuff for breakfasts. Some families make us dinner. The grocery money is for drinks and stuff to add to the food people bring.
Junot- We are taking two vans, one is free, we are getting one from enterprise and we are paying for that one and gas for both, $300 for the grocery bill, and one group mean and supplies.
Senator Ward- I wonder if you could check with Lowes or Home Depot this week.
Advisor Chirhart- I would talk to enterprise about that too.
Junot- We are getting the centenary rate, which is a reduced price than usual.

Senator Monette- Just so you know I didn’t write that resolution that you read. The other thing is that if we are going to debate and amend something. If you don’t like it vote NO. that’s why we have the other option.
Senator Argue- I second the bad ass party. I get to see jeff this weekend.
Senator Nguyen- I was working on Saturday, but my boss let me leave like fours hours early so I got to go to Homecoming stuff.

Senator McDonald- Grunes test.
Senator Lusted- I went to brookshires and Sandra bullock was there.
