College Mourns Loss of Three Longtime Benefactors, Trustees
The campus community has mourned the deaths of three longtime supporters of Centenary College during this past spring and summer. All were members of the Alumni Hall of Fame and were or had been members of the Centenary Board of Trustees. All were loyal Centenary alumni who worked tirelessly on behalf of numerous causes at the College. They are:
Dr. Charles T. Beaird

Dr. Beaird, Shreveport businessman, newspaper publisher, philosophy professor at Centenary, died April 18, 2006, at Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital in Shreveport. He was 83. At Centenary he was benefactor of the Charles T. Beaird Eminent Scholars Chair of Philosophy and two endowed Beaird professorships, elected to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1978, and was a member of the Centenary College Board of Trustees. His memorial service was held April 22, 2006, in Brown Chapel at Centenary.
Mr. Edwin Frost Whited

Mr. Whited, Shreveport and Santa Fe, N.M, businessman and philanthropist; died June 9, 2006, in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 86. He was benefactor of the Frost School of Business, Frost Gardens and the Mary Amelia Douglas-Whited Eminent Scholars Chair in Neuroscience; was elected to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1968; and was a former member and officer of the Centenary Board of Trustees. His memorial service was held Aug. 30, 2006, in Brown Chapel at Centenary.
Dr. Samuel P. Peters Jr.

Dr. Peters, Shreveport civic and business leader and philanthropist, died July 24, 2006, at Grace Home in Shreveport. He was 87. Dr. Peters was a benefactor of the Samuel P. Peters Research Center, an 8,200-square-foot building at the front of the Centenary campus, which was named in his honor in 1990. He was elected to the Alumni Hall of Fame in 1989 and received an honorary doctorate from Centenary in 2000, alongside former First Lady Barbara Bush and novelist Ernest Gaines. In 193839 he was elected the first Centenary Gent. His memorial service was held July 26, 2006, at First Methodist Church, Shreveport.
