Karen Eason, Shreveport, earned a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 2000. She is principal of Shreve Island Elementary School, a year-round and nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School.
Sybil Zebbs White, Mansfield, La., is a fourth-grade language arts teacher at Mansfield Elementary-Middle School. She has been teaching for 15 years and holds national board certification in literacy. Her son, Demontre, is a student at Southern University in Baton Rouge.
1991
David Hesser, Alexandria, La., is training attorneys, mental health professionals and financial professionals on how to do collaborative divorce. He held a program in Shreveport on May 12–13, 2005. More information on the training is available at www.collaborativetrainingteam.com. David was selected, by the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals to speak at its annual forum in Atlanta, Ga. on Oct. 30. The topic: combining the collaborative team model with mediation. He is with the law firm of J. Ogden Middleton, II as “Of Counsel” and practices family law and admiralty law.

Scott Durbin, New Orleans, La., is still a part of Imagination Movers, an award-winning Children’s Entertainment Group, Beastie Boys Meet Mr. Rogers. Since the last time his news was published in Centenary Today, the Imagination Movers have received 10 national awards, including two from the prestigious Parents’ Choice Foundation, and a John Lennon Songwriting Contest Award.
The group has had three songs on XM Kids, a national countdown of top children’s songs on XM Satellite Radio, including No. 1 hit “I Want My Mommy (Time For Bed).” That song is currently being turned into a children’s book by Pelican Publishing. On PBS, the Imagination Movers videos air regularly on WLAE TV (Channel 32 in New Orleans) and will be expanding statewide via Louisiana Public Broadcasting and soon after to five neighboring states. Children of all ages can tune in throughout the week to see Rich, Scott, Dave and Smitty cleaning their rooms, shopping for healthy snacks, and playing their “junk” drumset on PBS. The Imagination Movers first DVD release will be reviewed in Parenting Magazine and Disney Family Fun Magazine. The Movers have been grand marshals of a Mardi Gras parade and have been nominated for a Big Easy Award for “Best Emerging Group.”
Susan Buchanan Jones, Longview, Texas, received a professional Doctor of Audiology degree from Arizona School of Health Sciences, a school of A.T. Still University of Health Sciences, on March 12, 2005. She is a doctor of audiology practicing at Longview Regional Medical Center.
Heidi McAllister, Wichita, Kan., is the new volunteer services manager at Exploration Place in Wichita. Exploration Place is a center for informal, enjoyable learning, creativity and community gathering serving residents and tourists of all ages with extraordinary resources for exploration.
Tammy Huffman McKenzie, Bossier City, La., is a major in the U.S. Air Force and is stationed in England. She serves as the physical therapist for the Department of Defense School System in England. This involves traveling to Norway, Portugal and Iceland to ensure that children with special needs have appropriate therapy services in the Defense School System. She and husband Mark have two children, Jacob and Madeline.
Jared Millet, Mobile, Ala., received a MLIS degree from Louisiana State University in 1996. He married Lea Greenwood in 2002.

Steve Brouillette, Brandon, Miss., passed the Louisiana Bar exam, and is now licensed to practice in both Louisiana and Mississippi.
Shayne Berry Young, Reddell, La., is married to Kirk Young, who is a Cooper Tire distributor. She is an elementary school teacher in Mamou.
1994
David M. “Trey” Carlton III, DDS, Alexandria, La., received the Louisiana Dental Association’s 2005 New Dentist Award in March 2005 at the association’s 125th annual session in Baton Rouge, La. The award is presented annually to one LDA member who has been in practice for less than 10 years and who has dignified himself or herself by giving time and talents for the betterment of mankind. David earned his D.D.S. in 1998 from LSU School of Dentistry and since then has maintained a general practice in family dentistry in Alexandria. He has held numerous leadership positions with the LDA. He is also a volunteer at the Huey P. Long Medical Center dental clinic in Alexandria and a volunteer faculty member for the LSU Health Sciences Center School of Dentistry at its off-site clinic in Alexandria.
Beth Rhoads Hughes, Shreveport, and husband Scott ’90 welcomed their second child, Merritt Elizabeth, on June 13, 2005. Proud big sister is Morgan Emerson. Scott is the executive director of the Alliance for Education and serves on numerous boards.
Kari Bergquist Kauffman, Austin, Texas, and husband Chad moved back to Austin after living in The Woodlands. Kari is a stay-at-home mom to Taylor, 3, and Kyle, 2.
Yancey Nolan, West Monroe, La., and Kristi have been married for eight years and have two sons: Yancey, 5, and John Brady, 1. Yancey is the director of human resources with ARCO, A Community Resource, which is a private non-profit agency in Monroe. Kristi is a medical transcriptionist.

Michele Brown Ball, Benton, La., passed her Certified Management Accounting exams.
Justin Bank, Little Rock, Ark., became general manager of Stageworks in Little Rock in July 2005. Stageworks is a custom theatrical contractor that works on custom lighting and rigging projects throughout the Mid-South.
Kelley McCrary Bernhard, Allen, Texas, is an associate professor in mathematics at the Collin County Community College. She and Ted have two children.
Paul Berry, Arlington, Texas, wife Jennifer and daughter Kaylee moved to Arlington after living for five years in Colorado. Paul does environmental work with a homebuilder and Jennifer is a cardiac nurse.
Keenan Gingles, MBA, Hammond, La., is publisher of The Daily Star newspaper in Hammond.
Melonie Whitehead Himel, Lake Charles, La., made a career change, joining the government sector after two years of public accounting. She now works in the Finance Department of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
Derrick Jacobs, Shreveport, is an executive recruiter for Magee Resource Group. He recruits mainly in the field of Information Technology. His office was ranked No. 1 in the world last year in systems, applications, and products in data processing staffing.
John Michael Moore, Bossier City, La., has been promoted to vice president of BancorpSouth, working in the Bossier City office. He has completed his second year at the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University and will graduate in May 2006.
Heather Peak Hooper, Shreveport, directed performances of MacBeth and Comedy of Errors, with director Don Hooper at Centenary’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse this past summer. Heather has directed several Shakespeare productions at East Bank Theatre, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Richard III. She taught classes in stage make-up and directing at Marjorie Lyons during Fall 2005 and team taught a course in theatre history with Dr. George Newtown of the English Department. Apart from Shakespeare, two of her favorite playwrights include Tom Stoppard and Edward Albee. Heather also makes jewelry.

Keith Considine, Houston, Texas, is a manager at Pricewaterhouse Coopers. His wife, Ami ’95, works in desktop publishing. He is a member of the Texas Society of CPAs and enjoys golf, fishing, and home-brewed beer. He and Ami are parents of Quinn and Dominic. Keith serves as president of the Houston Alumni Chapter and is a member of Centenary’s President’s Advisory Council.
Jolie Kowalski, Prairieville, LA., is a stay-at-home mom taking care of her two boys, Gabriel, 4, and Joshua, 1.
Lynd Matt, Cambridge, Mass., has joined the staff of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts as the assistant director of development. His fundraising work includes primary responsibility for the annual fund, coordination of some small events, and management of a portfolio of major donors. Mandy Rogers Mizenis, Commerce, Ga., is happily married and has a daughter who is almost 2.
Brian Wilson, Tulsa, Okla., is a member of the Tulsa Contemporary Dance Theater Co. He performed in Written on the Bod, an eclectic collection of original dance works ranging from the fanciful to the absurd. Brian debuted a piece and performed in six of the 12 numbers. “TCDT, formed in 2003, seeks to celebrate the value of dance in our culture and the unique expression of each individual. The goal of the company is to entertain, educate and present dance to the community. Currently the company consists of nine dedicated dancers bringing with them a variety of dance experience and education,” Brian said.

Michelle Boutte, Waco, Texas, is a staff psychotherapist for the University of Texas Medical Branch, Correctional Managed Care in the Gatesville Cluster. Her main assignment is at a women’s prison.
Elizabeth Means Culp, Cleburne, Texas, completed a master’s degree in special education with an accompanying certification in autism intervention. In her spare time, she is learning to be a better horse rider/handler.
Joel Jowers, Kane’ohe Bay, Hawaii, arrived back in Kane’ohe Bay in April 2005 after a successful deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqui Freedom II. He was selected to attend Expeditionary Warfare School in Quantico, Va., for the 2005-06 academic year.
Susan Moore, Shreveport, is a nurse at Willis-Knighton Medical Center.
Joby Ogwyn, Shreveport, served as 2005 grand marshal of the Krewe of Centaur parade in Shreveport. In 1999, he became the youngest American to reach the summit of Mount Everest. He also has reached the highest summit on each of the seven continents and is one of only 53 in the world to accomplish this feat. His new goal is to be the quickest instead of the youngest. He just set a record for the fastest climb to the top of Cho Oyu. He climbed the 8000-foot peak in eight hours. The previous record was for 10 and a half hours. He has also been working with Italian producer Allesandra Pasquino on some film projects. He writes a column for City Lights magazine about his and others’ experiences in the extreme sporting world.
Wendy Hamon Rollins, Little Rock, Ark., works for Fidelity Information Services and is the senior application programmer for SunTrust Bank.

Cameron Crawford Armstrong, San Antonio, Texas, is a stay-at-home mom to son Gavin. Her husband, Marshall, has just entered his fifth year with a law firm in San Antonio.
Christine Zaffarano Bromley, Sherwood, Ark., works for L’Oreal as launch/supply planner. She and David celebrated their fifth anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas.
Jeremy Erwin, Dallas, Texas, is beginning his last year of residency in obstetrics-gynecology at Baylor. He will join a practice in Shreveport-Bossier next year. He is married to Carolyn Hale ’01 Erwin.
Katharine Harper, Cedar Park, Texas, and William McCormick were married Dec. 3, 2005 in Austin, Texas. Katherine is working as a case worker for profoundly mentally retarded adults at the Austin State School.
Rebecca Harper, Dallas, Texas, works for a real estate investment trust, The Macerich Co., as the specialty leasing manager for the Valley View property.
Holly Hatten, Dallas, Texas, is still teaching and ran the Big D Half Marathon last year.
Julie Baldwin McEntire, Baton Rouge, La., teaches world history and Advanced Placement European History to juniors and seniors at St. Michael the Archangel High School (formerly Bishop Sullivan). She is active in Centenary’s Baton Rouge Alumni Chapter and serves as the chair of student recruitment.
Daniela Sarquiz, Dallas, Texas, is working for Research Group of Texas (tax property consultant) as an account executive. She lives in Dallas and is engaged. She is still coaching and playing soccer on a women’s team.
Julie Shepherd Whiteneck, Baytown, Texas, is enrolled at the University of Houston working towards a master’s in speech and language pathology. She and Chris are both in school. He is attending South Texas College of Law and she still works at Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church ministering to the children and youth.

Lisa Bailey, Alexandria, Va., is developing marine conservation communication strategies (outreach/social marketing) in coastal areas around the world and co-writing a publication on “best practices” and sustainable cruise destinations—setting examples for the typical “poor practice” destinations (and cruise lines) to follow.
Katie Barkley, Shreveport, received a master of arts in teaching from Centenary on May 7, 2005. She is an elementary school teacher in Caddo Parish.
Kerry Bujarski Bleil, Haughton, La., is a fulltime mom, after working as a preschool teacher for the last four years in Minot, N.D. Daughter Sarah Maxine Bleil was born on Feb. 22, 2005.
Beth Bonner, Baton Rouge, La., has recently been named vice president of Zyber Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The rapidly growing Louisiana- based company specializes in pediatric medicines and has expanded its sales force from three to 30 representatives in just five years. Beth and Matt DeVille are engaged to be married on May 13, 2006 in Baton Rouge. She serves as president of Centenary’s Baton Rouge Alumni Chapter and spoke about the College’s Honor Code at Founders’ Day Convocation in February 2005.
vanessa Boyd, Henderson, Texas, plays original music and has recently released her first full-length album, Unkept Woman. She currently lives in Appalachia.
Danielle Spoehrer Giacalone, Tomball, Texas, is employed at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Community Clinical Oncology Program Research Base, as a marketing and communications coordinator.
Ashley Holbert, Houston, Texas, graduated with an MBA from Texas A&M University in December 2003. Ashley and husband Jimmy moved to Spring, Texas, and she works in e-commerce strategy with Hewlett Packard.
Shaun Jackson, San Antonio, Texas, finished his third year as a resident at San Antonio University Hospital. He and Jennifer Brown, a realtor in Bossier City, married on June 4, 2005, at his home in Mansfield, La.
Stephanie Kestel Karpovs, Lake Charles, La., married Dr. Anatole Karpovs in December 2001. They were living in Richmond, Va., while he completed his residency. Their son, Nikolai, was born on April 7, 2004. She was working as a speech-language pathologist in an adult rehabilitation center in Richmond, Va., but joined a private practice in Lake Charles. She now works with children and adults. Anatole joined the Children’s Clinic of Southwest Louisiana as a pediatrician.
Tyler Speckman, Shreveport, is a commercial credit underwriter with AmSouth Bank in Shreveport. He is engaged to Amanda LeBlanc ’02. Their wedding date is set for May 6, 2006, in Shreveport.
