Fall 2008 Problem 1: Pick a number!
This first problem is so easy, all you have to do is pick a number! Choose a positive integer (that is, a number from the set 1, 2, 3, 4, ....) and submit it.
The winner will be the person who submitted the lowest number that no one else submitted. For example, if the submitted numbers are 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 5, 6, and 7, whoever submitted 2 is the winner (since that's the lowest number that appears once).
Solution
The most popular number submitted was 4 (with 13 entries). No one submitted 10, 15, or 16. Our winning entries were 18 (earning Ashley Helms 3 points), 21 (giving Dakota Guillory 2 points), and 34 (earning Greg Anderson 1 point).
