About the Hurley School of Music
The School of Music is one of the largest programs at Centenary College, with a sizable percentage of the student body majoring in music or participating in our ensembles. Students study with highly qualified performers and scholars. There are no graduate-student-led courses or private lessons. Each music student has the attention of our best faculty members.
Students in the School of Music enjoy a variety of experiences outside of music at Centenary College, with many choosing to participate in student government, Greek life, or other campus organizations. A number of music students take part in local churches as music leaders in church choirs or orchestras. Some music students also pursue study in Centenary's pre-med or pre-law programs.
The Hurley School of Music is located in the vibrant twin cities of Shreveport/Bossier City, Louisiana, where there are many cultural opportunities. There are professional symphonic groups and an opera company, as well as a number of amateur theater companies that provide performing opportunities for Centenary students. The city also has attractions such as the Robinson Film Center, Sci-Port Discovery Center, outdoor events at Festival Plaza downtown, the Louisiana Boardwalk shopping experience, and a series of Mardi Gras parades and events.
