Urinetown - The Musical

Centenary College's Hurley School of Music and Marjorie Lyons Playhouse will present their first joint production, the musical Urinetown by Mark Hollman and Greg Kotis. The satirical plotline, which parodies the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself, revolves around a town where water is scarce, so scarce that sustainable living is just beyond the reach of all but the very wealthy. The Urine Good Company still manages to turn unthinkable profits at public "amenities" as the Poor queue up daily, finding relief at a price. A rebellion foments and soon tables are turned. Will the transfer of power from the rich to the poor create a dreamscape of public contentment? The book of Urinetown, a 2002 Tony Award winner in multiple categories, offers no answer, but as it searches, takes aim at every "ism" that pretends to point the way. Urinetown is satirical comedy at its best, accompanied by an outstanding musical score. You'll be laughing, singing its wonderful tunes, for days after the curtain comes down, and of course, thinking a lot about "Urinetown is our town, when you're hopeless, down and out!".

Directed by Dr. Ron Bermingham with choreography by Anna Maris Kirkes, the production stars an ensemble cast of Centenary students: Kyle Boston, Herman Hope, Mary Ellen Kidd, MarvKevea Campbell, Joe Signorelli, Mathieu St. Romain, Hayley Cooper, Rebecca Vacha, Sandy Rather, Steven Knight, Josh Ritter, Michael Nguyen, Meredith Ball, André Trahan, Addie Jane Barron and Jessica Bato.
