Candace Maynard serves as Secretary and all-around Saint for the Hurley School of Music. All operations of Hurley are managed by her capable hands: programs, program notes, facility management, concert and rehearsal scheduling, recruiting assistance, party planning, student organization, administration of the businesses of the Suzuki and Piano Preparatory Schools, financial management, records management….the list goes on and on.
She received her Bachelor of Music Education (BME) from NLU - Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM – University of Louisiana at Monroe) in 1980, with clarinet as her main instrument, plus flute and saxophone. She’s performed in the pit for approximately 15 musicals/operas for our community and was a member of Bill Causey Big Band (saxophone) for about 6 years (local/Shreveport based), playing weekly at one of the casinos, in addition to special events: receptions, Red River Revel, New Years’ Eve events, to name a few. She was a member of the Centenary Summer Band for many years on clarinet, and taught saxophone for 2 years at Northwestern Louisiana University in Natchitoches. She’s been an alto member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Choir for 20 years.
She was born and raised in Shreveport, and has lived in Bossier City since 1982. She’s married to saxophonist Bob Maynard. She has two grown daughters, one of whom has a Ph.D. in School Psychology, and one goober 12 year old son.
If Dr. Odom is the brain behind the Hurley School of Music, Candy Maynard is its heart.
