SHREVEPORT, LA -- When the choice is between a Christmas tree and food on the table, there's no contest.

Students at Centenary College are volunteering their efforts so that 200 needy families won't have to make that choice this year.

They are raising funds to purchase trees at a reduced cost from a Linden, Texas Christmas tree farm and they are staying during part of their Christmas break to cut the trees and deliver them to homes that have been identified through the Angel of Hope Foundation.

"This is a way to alleviate some of the incidental costs of Christmas and to allow many needy children who will be receiving Angel of Hope gifts to have a tree to put the gifts under," said Student Government Association Senator David Evans.

The Centenary SGA is raising funds and coordinating the effort, with the assistance of the Bonn-Grow Christmas Tree Farm. Fraternity members of Tau Kappa Epsilon will cut the trees and help the SGA deliver them on Dec. 15 to the 200 identified homes.

Those wishing to sponsor a tree or contribute can send checks, payable to Centenary College, in care of David Evans, at Centenary Box 278, 2911 Centenary Boulevard, Shreveport, LA 71104. For further information, call 318-861-3178.
