SHREVEPORT, LA -- The Student Activities Board (SAB) has announced its first-ever "Freak Week" for the week of Oct. 26-31. Activities include:
Monday, Oct. 26: "Tales of Terror"--Story Telling in the Faculty Lounge of the Moore Student Union Building. Faculty, staff and students will be telling original tales and their favorite Halloween stories from 7-9 p.m. Refreshments will be served. At the conclusion of the event, SAB will distribute 30-35 pumpkins to groups or individuals that would like to participate in the pumpkin-carving contest to be held Tuesday, Oct. 27.
Tuesday, Oct. 27: "The Great Pumpkin Contest" in the Dining Hall from 5-7 p.m. All those who picked up a pumpkin on Monday evening must submit their entry no later than 4 p.m. to the Dining Hall. Students will be asked to vote for their favorite carved pumpkin as they enter for dinner. The three favorite entries will receive cash prizes.
Wednesday, Oct. 28: "Howl at the Juba Moon" will feature local Centenary talent. A local band will perform in the Hargrove Amphitheater. Juba Moon performs a mixture of rock/alternative music. Smoothie Shack will be on hand selling refreshing smoothies.
Thursday, Oct. 29: "Casino Night" will feature games of chance and other events. A large number of prizes will be given away. The event will be in the Moore Student Union Building from 7-11 p.m.
Friday, Oct. 30: "Shake Yer Bones" on Hardin Field. Several entertaining inflatables will be on campus from 12-5 p.m. The featured items will be human bowling, human spider web, bungee run, and sumo wrestling. Smoothies will be on sale. At 9:30 p.m., the annual "Halloween Hoopla" will be held in the Gold Dome. The basketball team (men and women) will make their debut along with a skills competition/contest for the team. SAB will be providing free pom-pons for the first 50 people in the Gold Dome. It also hosts its annual Halloween costume at the event. The audience will choose the top three winners, who will receive cash prizes.
Saturday, Oct. 31: "The Mysterious Craig Karges" will conclude the week of festivities. Kargess is a well-known mentalist who has appeared on shows like David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He is a former College Performer of the Year. The show will be in Hurley Auditorium at 8 p.m.
Several of the events fall during Parent's Weekend, set for Oct. 30-Nov. 1. SAB has invited all parents on campus to come to any of the events scheduled. The SAB will also issue 500 Freak Week T-shirts to all undergraduate students who attend the Juba Moon concert, Casino Night or Halloween Hoopla.
