SHREVEPORT -- The Centenary Ladies faced another strong Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander pitcher, and the result was the same as the first game of the series: the Ladies lost, this time by a score of 5-0. Today was supposed to be a doubleheader, but the second game was rained out before play had begun, giving Corpus Christi a two-game sweep of the weekend.
Islander (11-28-1) pitcher Melanie Drews baffled the Ladies, throwing a complete game shutout while giving up only five hits and striking out three.
She got plenty of help from her offense, which scored one run in each of the first three innings to stake her to a 3-0 lead. That margin remained until the top of the sixth when center fielder Shrlly Oetken hit a two-run home run, her second of the season, to give the Islanders the final runs of the game. Oetken finished 1-3 with two RBIs and one fun scored. She was assisted offensively by right fielder Kesty Meitner, who hit her second home run of the season in the top of the second.
Centenary's (7-35) offense was led by designated player Heather Rose, who went 2-2 with a walk on the day. First baseman Katie Meinen also had a good day at the plate, going 1-2 with a walk.
