Centenary Announces Campus Week of Dialogue Events for Oct. 11-16 Observance

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College will participate in the national Campus Week of Dialogue, Oct. 11-16, with a series of activities and events promoting conversations about race on campus.

The programs are a part of the third annual week, sponsored by The White House Office for One America and the U.S. Department of Education, which have challenged schools to commit to at least one project aimed at moving their communities and the country toward racial reconciliation.

At Centenary, five events have been planned by students, faculty and staff associated with the Black Student Alliance, Campus Activities Board, InterOrganizational Council, Residence Hall Association, resident assistants and the Office of Student Life.  Planned are:

  • "Can I Speak for You Brother?" by the African American Drama Company of California, performing its one-man play on the history of black leaders.  The play will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11 in the Hurley Auditorium.
  • "Target/Non Target," an interactive and intense look at beliefs and prejudices, 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12 in the James Hall lobby.
  • Campuswide Town Hall Meeting, offering students a chance to voice concerns about racial issues at Centenary, 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 in Carlile Auditorium  (Mickle Hall Room 114).
  • Black Student Alliance Gospel Show, 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in the Hargrove Memorial Amphitheater.
