Centenary Student,
Programs Earn Regional Residence Hall Awards from SWACURH
SHREVEPORT, LA -- Centenary College
has recently received two regional residence hall awards from the Southwest
region of the national Association of College and University Residence
Halls (SWACURH). The region covers Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana
and Mexico.
Ashlie Daigle, a junior from Thibodaux,
La., was named National Communications Coordinator (NCC) for the month
of October. Each college or university has one NCC who is responsible
for serving on the RHA executive board, communicating with other schools,
preparing delegations for conferences and representing their college on
state, regional and national levels.
Centenary also earned the residential
Educational Program of the Month for October. The program, "Blasted
on the Balcony," was planned by the resident assistants of Cline Hall with
the assistance of several residents. Six different "stations" were set
up with food, drinks and activities to educate students about alcohol issues.
The program had a total attendance of nearly 200 people and served as the
kickoff event for the college’s Alcohol Awareness Week.
For the month of September, the Centenary
Leadership Conference, sponsored by RHA and the National Residence Hall
Honorary, won Educational Program of the Month. Students from the
sponsoring organizations, Hall Councils, Student Government, Greek organizations,
Leadership Conference alumni, and other groups came together to both teach
and learn leadership skills. Christy Melton, a senior from Mansfield, La.,
and Brandon Lawson, a senior from Kansas City, Mo, chaired the conference.
The two October awards will now be
considered at the national level.
