Read and ReJoyce II: A Selection of Works from the Archives of William Joyce Exhibit at Centenary's Meadows Museum of Art through Feb. 1, 2004
SHREVEPORT, LA—The Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College of
Louisiana will present the creative exhibition Read and ReJoyce II:
A Selection of Works from the Archives of William Joyce from Nov.
2 through Feb. 1, 2004.
The Read and ReJoyce II experience begins with a selection of original covers from The New Yorker, which are positioned at the museum’s main entrance. As visitors leave the main entrance hall, they immediately find themselves caught in a colorful maze in which some 16 podia are located. One of Joyce’s books rests on each of the podia and above each book hangs an original illustration from the book. Some of the books with accompanying original illustrations included in the “reading maze” are Dinosaur Bob and his Adventures with the Family Lazardo, George Shrinks, Bently & Egg and The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs.
Museum visitors have the opportunity to go from podia to podia looking through and reading Joyce’s books as they search for the images in the books that match the original works on the walls. “The podia, original works and printed books are installed in a way that we hope will encourage reading while simultaneously instilling an appreciation of the visual arts in museum visitors,” said Diane Dufilho, director of the Meadows Museum of Art. Also incorporated into the maze section are a number of walls with windows cut in the shapes of circles, squares, triangles and rectangles that provide a sneak peek into other sections of the exhibition.
Upon leaving the maze, visitors can walk through a section that highlights a number of Joyce’s unpublished works and sketches or relax in a video room designed for viewing the famous Joyce character of television and book fame, Rolie Polie Olie. This exhibition is not to be missed and is sure to engage and delight regional audiences of all ages.
Read and ReJoyce II: A Selection of Works from the Archives of William
Joyce is accompanied by approved posters featuring works from the
